Shimmy on rutted wet roads?

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this, or it it's a sign of something wrong with my car. I've had a 2016 SS for about 3 months. The previous owner put ExtremeContact DWS06 tires on it.

When I'm on the highway, if it's wet (and it rains a lot here) and there are any ruts from trucks, the car shimmys around like crazy. It feels like it's constantly twitching left/right. I don't have to constantly correct with the wheel, it sorts it self out, but it did one big shimmy this morning that scared the &*@$# out of me. That's not what I want to feel the car do at 100km/hr, with no input from me, and no visible disruption in the pavement.

Is this just normal for cars with tires this wide?

Have your alignment checked, But High performance Summer only tires have a habit of darting and following cracks on the road. They do like like ruts and cracks. By product of high grip tires.....

Those tires have a decent rating for wet conditions but I wouldn’t rule out hydroplaning. How many miles on the tires? What’s the tread depth?

^^ Beat me to it. Those are great tires from the reviews. My guess is they are sufficiently worn to be a problem in the wet.

I don't actually know the mileage on them, since they were put on by the previous owner. ~38000kms on the car though. I haven't measured the tread depth, but the DWS have the depth indicator thing in the tread, on the rear the "S" is gone, only the "DW" remaining, but all three are still there on the front. Supposedly that means they all have enough tread for wet conditions still.

Hydroplaning feels a little unlikely, just because I've felt this happening on wet roads without any visible standing water. Like the tire ruts aren't full of water, the roads are just wet.

It's probably hydroplaning.

It's terrifying to think that this is hydroplaning.

The wear indicators on these tires indicate they're still good for wet weather. The fronts are supposedly even still good for snow, not that I want to test that.

This is what I'm talking about: http://www.hotrod.com/articles/bfgoo...ar-indicators/
They don't glow yellow like that, lol, they're just cut into the tire to a certain depth. I attached photos of them to this post.

If your from Vancouver I've been having the same issue but I'm running summers. It's bad enough that I stopped driving in the rain till it gets warmer. Car is all over the road and just makes it annoying to drive

The tread depth looks OK, Try going up a couple of LBS. in the Tires air Pressure. If that doesn't work, Check Alignment!!!!!

Yeah, I am. I notice this the most on the 91 connector, cruising at anywhere over 80km/hr. I haven't really run into it anywhere else much, but that's my commute right now. :(

Yeah, I'll try both those, in that order.

Any tire will hydroplane if there's enough water.

Yeah but what about "on wet roads without any visible standing water"? If these tires are supposed to be good for wet weather, and still have enough tread, should that be enough to cause hydroplaning?

Regardless, I'll get the alignment checked. Needs to go in to the dealer about the 1-2 shift anyway.
