Question for you guys with cam swap!

Is everyone having to pull the engine to install the cam? Also I spoke to one of the guys at btr and he said I'd have to do a dod delete. I haven't driven my car much but I never noticed it having that. Do zl1s have dod?

Some find it beneficial to pull the engine depending on the level of modifications, but it is NOT mandatory for a cam install. Yes, both LT1 and LT4 engines have displacement on demand and afm-lifters.

Manual trans has the DOD lifters but not turned on in the tune. Need to be changed though if doing a cam. I left my engine in the car but removing the pan isn't a lot of fun but it can be done.

*ALL* ZL1's have the AFM lifters but AFM turned off. Regardless of transmission.

I pulled my engine to do it for several reasons. It may be possible to do a cam with the engine in the car, but it will be a PIA. Also, you have to drop the pan when doing a cam in order to remove the oil pump, the pan is siliconed on, cleaning and re-sealing that surface with the engine in the car would be difficult at best.

Since we’re on the topic of cam swaps, does anyone know off hand the kind silicone GM uses for the gasket?
