Helmet room????? How can I get more???

Hey everybody. So I have a 16 2SS car. No moon, swapped in the 1LE factory Recaros. Love them by the way. Here is my delima. I’m 6’2” with only a 30” inseam. I’m all torso! No issues normally. Now when it comes to helmet space. Ugh! I had an old HJC last year. Probably not the best helmet option. Looking at helmets for this season and two of the most compact ones I have come across are the Bell Sport or the Bell Sport EV. Or a Simpson carbon devil ray for three times the price.

My question is. In addition to a better helmet, has anyone modified their seat foam, seat riser or head liner to gain extra helmet clearance??? I would really like to retain the full feature function of my seat as it’s not just a pure track car.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Have a legit fab shop make you low mount custom bracket, and a race seat with the pad removed. Room for days. You’ll just have to swap seats for track days. Not the end of the world.

I had helmet rub issues with my 5th gen. Only 6 ft, but it had a sun roof. I just reclined the seat a bit and moved it forward so my arm position was correct. Felt a little odd at first but kept it that way and it felt normal after a while.

I am 6'5" with a 32 inseam, I fit with my gforce gf1 but my seat is almost all the way back and reclined a hair more than my normal seating position.

I am 6', 3" with a 34" inseam. I am close to the roof and prefer a more upright driving position. I dont recall making contact with the roof while on the track. However, the helmet hits the head rest. Any way to remove that? It is annoying on the track and I definitely notice it more as I near the end of the session.

You don’t want to be on track without a headrest behind your head (in an accident)

It would be nice if you could take the headrest out and turn it around for occasions when you're wearing a helmet to give just a little more room in the back.

Would a local upholstery house be able to replace the butt-foam with something thinner? Might not buy you much but you might not need much.

From what I'm reading, replacing the seats in these cars sounds like a PITA.

I am 6'4" and track/AutoX my car regularly.

After much trial and error, I found that the Arai helmet has the lowest profile avail. I tried Bell, G-Force, Simpson, Stilo and Sparco.

With the seat run all the way down, I have no problem with fitment.

My 6th gen with Recaros has more head room than my last 2 5th gens did and i'm 6'3", I'm currently using a HJC helmet. The seat is all the way down and reclined slightly.
