Engine Oil 5W-40 Rotella T6

I have been looking at changing my oil and have a bunch of Rotella T6 laying around from my old car, its listed as dexos 2 how many people use this?

https://www.centerforqa.com/dexos-brand2/

Just wondering how common it was for people to use diesel oil in their gas burners, I used it in my Subaru STi as it was quote popular and it broke down less

totally fine in the above freezing temps. Go for it as the Dexos 2 approval is top notch!

Diesel motor oils have higher levels of zinc and phosphorous (anti-wear additives) than the dexos1 or other conventional synthetic motor oils for gas automobile engines. Zinc and phosphorous are catalytic converter poisons and can cause them to plug if you use diesel motor oil continuously.

Well I was thinking of using it as I am still breaking the car in, only have 390 miles on it. I was going to change the oil at 500 and 1500 miles. After 1500 miles thinking Motul 5w30.

I was going to say it is big in the Subaru community because it does not break down as quick as some other oils. I know for a fact that the EJ series Susbaru engine eat Mobil 1 oil. I always ran Castrol Syntec Edge in my STI and had 0 oil consumption with that brand. Check out Bob Is The Oil Guy website. There is a lot of great oil information there.

Always interesting how quickly folks want to change from the recommended oil, filter, gear oil, spark plugs, wires, etc. Not sure why I would want to out think the engineers who designed this car. Yeah, when I modded my GTO I did all of the above because the modifications truly benefited/required different plugs, thicker oil, etc. But for a stock vehicle I see zero benefit in deviating from GM's specs. Just my 2 cents.

I agree, but most of us Subaru guys ran catless anyways! I used the T6 and it did well vs the heat at 3k intervals.

+1 on Bob Is the Oil Guy website

Try using Blackstone to see if you noticed a difference! Between the different oils.

Right most people run catless on Subaru's as I did as well, and I do agree the EJ motor eats up the Mobil 1.

We technically in the GM 2018 track preparation guide it states you 0W-40 or 5W-40 dexos2 spec. If that oil is not available you use Valvoline Synpower MST 5W-40 or Mobil 1 15-W50 oil and ZL1 1LE to be Mobil 1 15-W50.

I was just wondering as I have a decent amount of T6 left over.
