New Buyers-Caveat Emptor-Why the Factory QC Review Process is Useless
After what I saw this last week I am cancelling my order for a 1LE.
I was with another 1LE Buyer these last two weeks, who looked at a 1LE recent arrival. When we looked closely at the 1LE we saw several red flags about the Car being in the elements, (i.e. Front End Rock Chips, Rims possibly pitted/finish damaged and the already documented "Aluminum Corrosion" was present. When speaking to the GM Techs it appears that all current ZL1 1LE's are being shipped from he Factory via OPEN Car Carrier and UNPROTECTED, (i.e. NO exterior wrap or other paint protection etc). Why does GM have a QC Review and correct paint blemishes and other "Finish Defects" then expose the Car to a brutal dose of road debris/rocks and salt and sand spray? IMHO, for a $73,000.00 high value car this maltreatment causes almost immediate loss in value because; 1) There is no way to fix paint damage/chips back to the quality of the original factory paint and; 2) 4-5 Days of road-initiated Salt Spray gets deep into the vehicle's crevices and electrical components which initiates immediate corrosion, absent a anti-corrosion treatment via a complete immersion into a salt neutralizer, (such as used on Aircraft and Ocean-based Equipment). So to all potential Gen6 owners; Caveat Emptor If you planned on keeping the car, (i.e. long term as a collector), be advised that the current shipping modes immediately expose the new cars to heavy salt spray and road debris. Some of us saw the initial deliveries of the ZL1 1LE, (Summer/Fall of 2017) that were accomplished with Enclosed Stacker Trailers. Now GM doesn't care and the cars are being maltreated during shipment and the subsequent damage. My focus will now be running a new 911 GT3 Cup, as I'm done with the lack of GM's concern with the above maltreatment, with the failure to correct the well-documented and unresolved M6 Bog factory design defect, including the new "Fathom Uncontrolled Throttle Rev-to-Redline." These complains also include my multiple bad experiences with the "less than stellar" and POOR Dealer performance, (both Sales and Service) and the subsequent excuses made by GM Customer Care when issues were brought to their attention for resolution. Even though I've been a life-long Chevrolet Client, Master Tech and Restorer, I'll spend my hard-earned dollars and Race with a New Porsche Cup Car, (which doesn't have the unresolved factory defects, which not only impedes race performance, but can be a major safety issue on and off the Track). Mine came in riddled with paint chips and the oxidation issue so I refused it and ordered another one. I asked if I could pay extra to have it shipped enclosed and the answer I got directly from gm was no. I asked about having it delivered to the closest Chevrolet dealer to the plant and that is a possibility and I may do that. The only problem with that is if I drive all the way out to Michigan and then find a problem with the car I have wasted a lot of time and money. I looked at a dodge demon today that was perfect. If the second one doesn’t turn out ok I will give up on the zl1 1le as well.

Order one from Becky. She’s close to the plant and can ship to you in an enclosed trailer.

These post terrified me about my November build ZL1. The car arrived damn near perfect with a clean under body. The only issue was that the car had hard water spots since I skipped the dealer prep, but a long Saturday with my Porter Cable and Meguiars made the paint damn near perfect. I did see another guy's ZL1 with noticeably more orange peel on the paint, but mine is smooth.

All you seem to do is complain about just about everything. With those opinions of a Camaro, you'd never be satisfied with one, so It's better if you find another make/model. |

Hi all,
I just picked up my 18 nightfall gray metallic ZL1 1LE. The car was detailed by the So Cal dealer and was delivered to me in perfect condition. I was unable to find any paint imperfections, the shine is excellent, and the interior was spotless. In coming from a 15 Z/28, my 1LE is just plain outstanding. I cannot express how much I am impressed with the car overall. An unbelieveable performance upgrade from the Z/28, and the added creature comfort amenities are superb. This is the best 6-speed close ratio gearbox ever. I'm sorry to hear someone had a bad delivery condition experience, but mine was flawless. This car must have been shipped in a protected manner. I'm taking it to a cars and coffee get together in the AM, and I'll try to post some photos afterwards. Take care, JJ

Winter deliveries are a crap shoot at best. That's why I ordered mine last May, unfortunately it wasn't built until late Jan. I'm still waiting, and I'm thinking given the weather in Michigan lately that maybe that is a good thing. If you don't mind me asking Badmojo, how did the aluminum components in your engine bay look? Specifically your alternator and steering control unit. I'm just curious given some of the horror stories that have been posted recently about oxidation and pitting. Thanks in advance for your response.

Funny...I see truckloads of Audis, Porsches, Land Rovers, Jaguars and other high end cars on OPEN carriers all the time...heck you should see whats on the OPEN auction haulers!
Big whoop. Order your $HIT so it gets built and delivered during spring/summer/fall if you are that worried.
