Unhappy PPF margin of error

Good evening - I recently had SunTek PPF installed on my brand new 2018 SS, Summit White. I’ve noticed underneath the rockers where the PPF wraps under is starting to come up, and I located a few large bubbles. These really aren’t visible to the eye unless you’re on your knees looking for them. I noticed the same thing under my front fascia. On a separate issue, I located some dust and specs under the PPF (only visible if you’re up close and looking for them). Would it be unreasonable to request the PPF be redone by the installer? I understand you’ll find something wrong with every job if you look hard enough. I apologize I don’t have pics handy, I’ll upload some ASAP. Thanks in advance!

If you’re not happy go back to installer.

Granted, I have no experience with these protection films or the prep work required, but I'd feel a little uneasy knowing there's visible debris trapped under it.

Have it redone. The installer has to properly prep the surface prior to installation to help prevent the issues you are describing.

And this is why everyone here will tell you that the skill of the installer supercedes the type of film that you choose.

The shop I went to got all 5-Star reviews and recommendations from the local Camaro club. That’s why I wasn’t sure if it was normal or not. I’m going to swing by on Monday and chat with them.

Then your next move , as said above, is to take it back to the installer. If they are that good and five star, they should replace it no questions asked. It's obviously improper prep of the service, and not installed in a dust reduced/free environment.

Like it was already said above , if your aren't happy with the job , go back talke to the shop manager , tell him /her that the install looks good in general , but there is a couple concerns that you would like to show and have it fixed , politeness goes a long way , stay firm on your issue with those areas and it all be corrected

Those sound like fixable issues. The lifting edges on the rockers can be trimmed, and the air pockets should be fixable using a syringe. On a white car, you will end up with some things under the film. It is a horrendous pain to work with paint protection film, and no one has an operating room to install it in, so keep that in mind in order to manage your expectations (it is an AFTER-market product after all). White just shows EVERYTHING.

It's also worth noting that suntek film is not the best out there, and it is harder to work with. We use Xpel Ultimate film at my store and we find it's a much better product.

The final note would be as already mentioned, the installer will make a substantial difference. For example, after any kit we do we use a heat gun to activate the adhesive quickly to secure the edges, otherwise you get spots where it can lift.

Also as already stated, if you have any questions or concerns go back and see them. They can't fix what they're not aware of, and if they're a reputable shop they will stand behind their work, within reason. If you go back asking to have a panel redone because of one spot of dust, be real- it will likely turn out the same way again and no one will be further ahead.

Yeah go back to the installer. When I first got mine done, they showed me where all the bubbles were and if they didn't go away after a few days to come back. There was one stretch mark and they fixed it right away. The installer didn't finish until it was completely perfect.

Once these issues are fixed, I think you'll be very happy with the protection the film will give you. I spend most of my time behind the wheel on the expressway doing 65 - 70 mph. Normally my hood and bumper would have all types of knicks in it by now. Not on my Camaro though. PPF is a must have for new cars for me now.

Thanks for the feedback...I can overlook the dust, I suppose it’s no different than trying to apply a screen protector to your phone dust-free (and I can’t even do that!). I brought the car back twice already for bubbles and lifting, I just wanted to see if my expectations were too high before a third time. The shop has given me no issues and fixed the issue each time, but I didn’t want to burn bridges if I was expecting too much. I’m going to swing by tomorrow and see what they say.
