Are you happy with your front brakes on the track?

I’m looking to upgrade my front calipers from 4 to 6 pistons. The cost to buy the ZL1 front kit is almost the same as the 1LE smaller kit. I’m a bit worried about brake bias if I’ll keep the stock rear calipers with the ZL1 kit.
Are you happy with your 1LE brakes? This is not about track pads at this point... i tried them all... the 4 pistons cannot handle the track duty.
Thanks for your help!

I would stick with the complete Brembo Kit- its set up for Camaro's.

I know it's not cheap but's its engineered......

OP is asking which OEM Brembo setup to go with.

The SS 1LE brakes are very good, but they don't get enough cooling air so the front calipers roast, upwards of 450°F, which shortens the life of the seals dramatically and turns them classic "Brownbo". That said, the 1LE's don't come with the SS's larger brake deflectors, so I picked up a pair and will try them this spring. They should be an improvement.

Given the chance and unlimited funds, I'd go for the full ZL1 setup. Otherwise, the 370mm front setup is damn near wonderful.

Have you tried running cooling ducts?

I assume by "cannot handle" it they are overheating and fading/melting pads?

Dave: There are Porsche-esque cooling ducts that go through the front bumper into the wheel well and aimed at a deflector on the front ride link. That said, the normal SS brakes are simply too small for serious track work. No amount of ducting can fix that.

I was starting to lean towards the SS1LE brakes being a tad inferior for hard track use (especially on tracks that are hard on brakes) as well. I bet cooling would have significantly helped the issues though.

As mentioned above, I have used the stock SS cooling "ducts" , but it did not help, especially after I got better tires. The pads would fade, get tapered or cause serious rotor judder.

Gotcha. I assumed there was some cooling so I did mean real ducting. But if they are still too small than more thermal mass is the fix

Thanks for everybody's input!
I've decided to purchase the 1LE pks. It turns out that if you buy all the pieces separately, it comes out to $1770 delivered.

I know you've made the purchase, but I will chime in to give you a bit of a good feeling on the purchase, in that I have the 6 piston/slotted GM option fronts on my car, and with the deflectors on and in the middle of South Louisiana summer, I had only the slightest of fade at the very end of a 25 minute session when I was really letting the nuts hang. That was also with oem pads. I have the powerstop track day pads now, and have had zero issues.

Congrats, great pricing! Can you do us a favor and post the part numbers?

Also, to add to locktyght's post. I ran the Power Stop Track Day pads earlier last year and they're fine until you really push. I'd get about 4 hot laps and then the pads begin to fade, and if you try to push them then they literally melt and the pad material sprays the front wheel barrels. They're fine for novice and intermediate, but once the pace goes up the pads can't handle it. I've since switched to ST-43's and they're awesome, about 1/4g more decel and only minor fade at the end of the session.

Good Info, I would consider myself intermediate, so Ill have to keep that in mind as I improve. I only run DE/lapping currently, no racing here yet.

I ordered some extra small nuts and bolts to be on the safe side.
The stock pads and caliper retaining clip I've ordered from Rockauto ($235 delivered)
