Firehawk Indy 500 vs Continental DWS 06
Managed to get 28k on the stock GY's but it's time for them to go. Daily driver nothing too extreme except the occasional laps for charity at the Vegas Speedway.
Got out the door quotes and both seem to be relatively close in price and now undecided. What kind of mileage can I expect on the Firehawks? I've searched the forums but havent seen much feedback on that specifically. I know the all seasons would be better for mileage but not sure if sacrificing performance for mileage would be worth it. Thoughts? |

I went with the Conti's last November and haven't looked back. They handle well and get the job done.

I have the Firestone's and they are a great tire. BUT, I would def go with the Continentals if they are around the same price. I've heard really good things about them. Also, the one thing I do not like about the Firehawk's is the flatter sidewall. This leaves you more exposed to curbing your wheels...which I have already done once.

The Firehawm 500 is not even in the same league as the Continental DWS06. The DWS06 is one of the top All Season tires on the market only next to the Michelin A/S3 tires.

While the Firehawk 500 is a decent tire, it is listed as a ultra high performance summer only by the manufacture. Those uses and descriptions are set by the manufacture and are not standardized by the industry at all, same as the treadwear rating system.
The OP is asking about a ultra high performance summer only tire and a ultra high performance all season, two completely different uses which if really dependent on where a person lives. Bang for the buck the Firehawk is a decent tire, the Michelin Pilot 4s or Continental Extreme Contact are the better summer only tires. Then the Michelin Pilot A/S3 or the Continental DWS06 are the best all season tires currently on the market. I am on my second set of Conti DWS06 on the wife's Audi SQ5, for a 43xxlb SUV that has around 450hp those tires do really well in all conditions. I have the Michelin Pilot 4s on my 1LE and so far they are as good on street use as the stock GY F1 Supercar Gen3 tires that came on the 1LE. Op is gonna have to decide first what kind of tire they want, all season or summer only. Then people can really recommend from there. |

In Las Vegas I’d get the Firestone’s.

I have the Continental DWS 06, they're an awesome all season tire. However I have dedicated winter tires I put on my car for the winter months and I'm really debating on going to a summer rated tire. I only have about 17,000 miles on my car currently, split between two sets of tires.
BUT, the reason why I want to try a summer tire is I feel like I'm missing out on the top end of performance. I want to go with 305s and see if I can improve on my 0-60 time and overall have a better sticker tire for spirited driving. I have NO issues with my continentals, but the quickest 0-60 time I can manage with my A8 is 4.5 seconds. There's a good amount of wheel spin at launch. It's an excellent tire and has over a 500 tread wear rating, so really they're the best bang for the buck. Great mileage, but you loose some launch stickiness.
