Circle D converters and lock up.

It has probably seemed like I was giving blame to the Circle D converter for lock up issues I have had since I put mine in and the other cars I have them in. That is simply not the case.

The converter itself has nothing to do with the lock up event. I have been logging my stock converter cars as well as my converter cars and digging as far into the tunes as possible and it seems that lockup is in a place in the tune we can't get to. It is either a time to distance deal or a gear lock out deal. The stock converter doesn't lock till 3rd gear either. but it has much less slip so it isn't noticed. I have also seen now that the faster the car is the longer the converter takes to lock no matter what you do.

I am going to keep digging. What I haven't tried is doing a pass in manual mode to see if there are different background tables for each.

So playing with WOT lock up speed in the TCC table does nothing?

You can keep it from locking up but getting it to lock earlier is not going to happen. The earliest I have been able to get the converter to lock is the tip top of 2nd on a high 10 sec pass on 28's.

Let’s assume 1000rwhp. I am curious what people are doing or trying to do. Can you lock up in third and keep it locked through the shifts or is that too harsh. Maybe you can only lock once you are in your last gear.

The earliest I have been able to get the converter to lock on a high 10 sec pass on 28's is the tip top of 2nd. On the 26" tires on a mid 10 sec pass it was the middle of 3rd. I messed with all of the mph's from top to bottom and it appears now that I have the converter locking on the 26" tire car just after the shift to 3rd. There wasn't much drag either from the vid. I have played with everything I can find. The other deal may also be the TCC Adaptive Learning. I noticed that the converter locked much earlier with some miles on the same tune. I would be curious to see what others are doing and if anyone has this figured out.

As far as keeping the converter locked during the shifts. I had a friend do it and it is verified that it does work. I have not personally messed with it. As soon as my car is back up and healthy I will be exploring all of this that I can. I have a built trans now so I have some leeway with messing with stuff.

did you send the trans to Steven or are there other options out there?

I am about three hours from Steven so I drove it down and dropped it off. We have since started working on some other things together. Great guy to talk with and work with.

My trans is with him right now. I also ordered a bunch of parts from him for good prices. He is very helpful and not afraid to share info.
