CHP scratched my car during stop

So on my way back from getting my vertical doors installed the other day I was in a little deep and had a cop pull me over out of nowhere. The guy was kind of a jerk and very Snappy from the beginning. I remain calm and very polite as I'm a big man and they don't typically like to talk to us as much as they go to the taser or stick first. he gave me a ticket for no front license plate (I told him I had it in the trunk and that we took it off her pictures but he didn't care) and 93 and a 65. Okay all fair in Love and War I understand I was speeding and totally accept it. Haven't gotten a ticket in a long time and have a traffic school so it was no problem. I back my car out of the garage this morning and find for huge scratches from about Midway to the back of my roof. Totally was this guy's ticket book with a pen or something on it I don't know. I already know I'm screwed, you can't file a claim or try to get any money back otherwise I'll get some stupid little note on my file that will pretty much guarantee me a ticket every time I pulled over for the rest of my life. This asshole had to know and he did this and was just a prick. I almost feel like taking him to court but already know what that router get me from past experiences and my constant anti Authority complex.

I would report it, at least where I am from you are required to report any damages of $2,000 or more. Maybe just tell them it is vandalism and you do not know what from, if you do not wish to accuse the CHP.

What evidence do you have that shows he did this,
Other than your word against his?

That sucks!

I've had bad experiences, too.

Some people (including some police) are jealous and resentful of a "law-breaking" machine.

Their ego forces them to strike out.

I'll bet Glen can help with the scratches - he's a paint guru.

that'll buff out.

Seems a stretch though that he reached the center of the roof near your shark fin.

Almost looks like something dirty was put on the roof that's much bigger. And i've never heard of a cop writing a ticket down on the roof of your car. Usually they go back to their car and play on their laptop for 15 min and then come back to hand it to you.

I'd be more inclined to believe this was a scratch that happened by the shop that installed your doors. maybe throwing a cloth over the car to protect it but it wasn't totally clean. it almost looks like someone was wiping it down and dragging a tiny grain of sand or something along with the rag.

“If” the cop caused that, I have a hard time believing it wasn’t purposeful... hopefully it can be buffed out. Good luck, I know I’d feel exactly the same as you.

There will be video of the stop. If you believe you are correct, file a complaint.

Been a cop for 25 years. I really cant see you being flagged in any way for reporting this. I would presume there would be in car video from his patrol car that would show this. File a complaint. Ask for the video. It will either prove it or not. If that was done to my car I for sure would be reporting it to that agency. The tickets are immaterial to the damage caused.

I agree.

If you do choose to file a claim, it must be done in accordance with the California Tort Claims Act, which is contained at Government Code section 810 et seq.

So you're 100% certain you saw the officer had put his ticket book or whatever it is on the roof of your car?

Cant believe a cop did this. That looks like the back of the passenger side and there are many very long scratches clear in the middle of the roof. Sorry not buying that was smokey's fault. Better check with the folks thst did your doors.

okay I'm no detective here but there is another line scratch in the middle. Right where the fin is at and goes to the reverse mohawk. Anyways this sucks, and a question for you is did you hear the cop sway his book twice. In the pic you posted it shows that a object was swiped twice. you can see where the scratches intersect. Word of advice is...... always watch every shop you take your car to. No-one and i mean no one will take care of your car as much as the owner does.
