Hood Wrap Replacement

Long story short I hit a deer back in November and figured I would take the opportunity to have my hood re-wrapped in satin black during the repairs instead of factory 3M matte. Got my car back Friday last week and have realized that I made a HUGE mistake not because of color (jury is still out on that one) but because of the wrap itself. Within 24 hours of getting the car back the wrap has a stone chip in it through to the paint and is now peeling up on one edge. My wrap guy said it is because it is cold out and I "chipped" the wrap when powerwashing it. I'm calling BS and looking into re wrapping the hood again. What brands of films are you guys using when redoing the hood? I would like something durable, not paper thin like what I just had put on. Honestly I am leaning towards just purchasing a factory vinyl and paying to get it applied.

TLDR: My new satin hood wrap is paper thin, what brand vinyl are you using when re-wrapping the hood?

True lol. I'm really just leaning to going back to them. Other than being a major pain to maintain due to the matte finish, the factory wrap seemed to be very thick and durable. Part of me thinks just remove it altogether and do full Xpel Ultimate on the hood but I know I would miss the black wrap.

Are 2 great ones....

Ask the guys at metrorestyling.com what to do....great tech support.

People seem to spend a Tonna time trying to figure out how to maintain this wrap on the hood, I’d just use a Rinseless regularly and replace it every couple years @$200....It’s not hard to do once you learn how to use wrap.

i had my roof wrapped on my old car and spent $200-300 and kept it outside but washed ever week or so and still had to replace it every few years its not meant to deal with the elements and can be scratched or damaged very easily ...

Thanks! They are on my list to call. I have a Metro Restyling very close to me in Michigan that my buddy uses. I was pretty happy with Adams matte protectant/detailer but that was after 7 months of maintenance with other products. I track the car in the summer and know it will take lots of abuse so I do expect to have to rewrap every couple years.

I ordered mine from Metro Restyling as well. 3M 1080 Scotchprint Satin Black, Item #SATIN1080S12. I got the 5ft x 6ft (60in x 72in) (30 Sq/ft) just to be safe that there was enough, and took to local shop for install. Also started to use Adams matte protectant/detailer. Think there was a coupon code at the time METROVIP5, if still active saves a couple pennies lol. Total shipped was under $60 bucks.

Is the satin a little better with fingerprints than the matte?

I wrapped my roof to match the hood right after I got my 1LE, the best match for the hood was 3M 1080 "Deep Black" I think the code was M22 but I'm not 100% sure. My hood wrap has some bad spots on it so I will be re-wrapping it soon with the Deep Black and adding the 1LE hood stripe.

What I have heard - there are a few guys on here that made the change from matte to satin for ease of maintenance and matching the other satin parts

My wrap had some spots on it - probably from transport.

Satin probably would look great. Any of the Matte black wraps ive seen on much of anything, seems to get that ashy oxidation look, at least here in the FL summer sun.

Instead of the 1LE Hash, put the actual 1LE letters in the same place as the hash mark under the wrap so it is a raised impression. Your welcome.

My father used to wrap his motor bike every year and he said he likes the VVIVID brand a lot. Easy to install, doesn't leave any bubbles and won't shrink under heat fro the sun.
