Stock bottom end hp limit
I just saw procharger post up about a sbe lt1 over 900rwhp. I saw another guy over on the corvette forum post about being over 900rwhp.
Can a sbe lt1 really live at these levels. If so it is time to turn it up. I wouldn’t be devastated if I blow it up but I don’t want to turn it up to a point where it will blow up for sure.

Weren't those LT4's? Don't think any SBE LT1 has seen a true 900rwhp....

If not i need to do some SERIOUS turning up haha. Been wary because of how much shit everyone is saying I should touch to survive at anything higher than 650whp cam, piston, rods, valvetrain, fuel, axles, driveshaft, fuuuuuu

Correct me if I'm wrong our LT1 goes something like this
550-580 (some at 600whp out of the m6) Bone stock block with a blower. Add Cam and more boost, 650 to 660whp (at piston limit) Add LT4 parts + pistons (hpfp, low side, intank, injectors) go e85 750 - 800whp To take the next step the rods come in question At any point in the game you can add meth to squeeze a few more ponies out of each stage. Correct me where i ****ed this up. Every builder seems to take a unique path towards high HP in these cars and it gets exhausting to keep track of it hah

Fuel is another issue. I have plenty of fuel and octane available.
The 3 set ups I am thinking of may all be lt4’s but I didn’t think so. I was hoping this post would get a response from some of those people pushing it. I will start asking them individually.

The sbe LT1 is no different then Gen IV and Gen III LSx engines when it comes to materials used. The biggest issue I’ve seen with guys blowing the sbe up is the lack of re-gapping the rings for the boost/power adder they’re using. Just like the previous Gen’s, the rings need to be addressed in order to make big power.
This is where the conundrum comes in....do you pay a shop to dismantle your engine, put fresh rings and bearings in it with gapping the rings according to where you want to be power wise, OR do you add the $900 to get forged pistons while you do it? Most guys say for the added insurance, you buy the pistons. Our engine will live to the same power levels as an sbe LSx if you do the same things that were done with the previous Gen engine. It really is engine building 101.....you can’t make a 450 hp build survive at 900-1000 hp and expect it not to break parts. Now take the same 450 hp build, and gap the rings for more boost so that they don’t butt the rings together under higher chamber pressures, you then have an engine capable of way more hp. It all depends on if you want to say you have an sbe or not....

I'm at 670 and waiting for my injectors and I'll be porting the heads and manifold hoping for about 740 and about 16 lbs of boost and still on stock block with no other internal mods. Parish is above that now.

Looks like this LT1 Vette went all the way there and eventually the factory rods failed him. The motor did have drop in pistons that were not the cause of destruction. But the block was destroyed |

Agree on most points but the LT1 is also a full point of compression higher as well. If I am opening up the bottom end its getting pistons/rods.

I did a little more research.
the one corvette over 900rwhp on sbe was an ls3 car posting in the 7th gen section. cleetus is at 840rwhp. pretty sure he is sbe and not lt4. he is also a stick and not much over where I am at. the 3rd car is something procharger mentioned in the cleetus thread. it is over 900rwhp on a sbe but they didn't mention if it was an lt1 or lt4. hoping they will post up. I am thinking I probably don't have a lot of room to turn it up. the reason I ask is this winter I am working on my 60'. converter, 15" wheels and 9". it will be awhile before I can touch the engine.

I was under the impression that ring gap, possibly wrist pins, and the tune will play a big role in how far you can go?

This is exactly why everyone says 700whp. If you’re going to do rings/gapping, you might as well replace them as it’s safe insurance. There’s no reason just gapping them wouldn’t make them live though.
