dropped wrench down console...

When installing my blendmount I dropped the small torx wrench (L shaped) and it fell down the console where the drivers side air vent is. perfect shot, straight down.

So the question is, how hard is it going to get it out of there.

Damn, these fingers and my lack of dexterity

Use a magnet stick from auto parts store

Too deep down there. I'm afraid a magnet that's small enough to get down there won't be enough to pull it back through the console. Thanks for the suggestion though

Glen e is right. Try a magnet stick, but the bendy type. That thing has saved my a$$ plenty. The magnets on some of these are pretty darn strong. Give it a shot. You’ve got nothing to lose and you’ll be surprised.

The console has six screws holding it down plus the attached harnesses to the electronics. You’d have to pull the shifter knob, then the whole console will come off. It’s not super difficult, but I would probably drive around for a while to see if it rattles before I dove into tearing it apart. If it doesn’t rattle, I’d just forget about it.

Thanks collective.

I guess I'm going to drive it around for awhile and hope it doesn't rattle. If it does I'll try the magnet, and use taking apart the console as a last resort. Hope it doesn't get to that.

Had my console out the other day. Not to terrible. 6 bolts. 4 up front under the knee pads and 2 in the rear on either side. There is a small access hole you'll see it. Unbolt all and lift console from the rear. That should give you enough clearance to fish our the driver. Note the rear of the console is tucked under the rear seat cushion and can be a PITA to lift up.

I dropped my torx wrench doing the same thing. My blendmount keeps coming loose and I was playing with it for the 10th time. Had kept the L wrench in my glove because it comes loose so often. Fell and I couldn't find where it fell because it was dark. Next morning, couldn't find. It may have fallen in the same hole of doom.

So far mine hasn't rattled. Couple of folks have posted instructions for removal and it doesn't seem too bad if it begins to rattle. That little downslope in that area is a killer isn't it.. it took me a bit to get my blend mount just right, but hang in there. You'll get it. The result is worth it.

Tie a small magnet to a piece of nylon string and lower it slowly down in there. It will likely fall to the same place as the wrench and be able to snag it.
