Question Must have Performance mods...while still maintaining warranty?

Hey Guys, Just picked up my 2018 2SS / A8, and wanted to know what kind of Performance mods are available to get the most out of the car and still maintain factory warranty? (For now...)
I saw that GM made several performance parts, but I also found companies that make the "exact" part just cheaper...
I wanted to know what you guys run and whats best?

There's not a whole lot to do performance wise where the mods do not run the risk of denied warranty coverage. Your Camaro SS is a nice platform, many options of worthwhile power adders with low risk to overall reliability. Give us a call to discuss options in detail.

You are basically stuck with a RF CAI, ported stock IM/TB. Everything else will require a tune. Once you are tuned your warranty is gone. To notice the ported IM/TB they would have to pull the car apart. Even then they most likely won't notice the IM. Once oil covers up the porting you have to know what you are looking for. The CAI you can swap back and forth for the dealership.

I still recommend a tune with any mods but it isn't necessary with what I listed.

not all dealers are the same. the dealer I use installed gmpp heads cam package, and stainless works long tubes with catless full exhaust and are honoring all warrenty issues including the new cam they had to install at 12,000 miles. 0 dollars out of pocket for 3 days work new gmpp cam (bad heat treat) new lifters and new oil pump. There are good ones out there just have to find one.

Good point.

my dealer said long as its not the culprit its good. Tuning is an auto NO NO. I was told exhaust, CAI, are good as well as suspension. Long as its not the culprit to warranty issues.

any single modification can risk voiding multiple different components under a microscope and can be used as a foundation to deny service to you. Then you have to chase the dealer to make it happen. In some states they can flat out refuse with no recourse.

In most cases it is safe to say, if you don't have contacts at the dealer, don't expect service on a car with performance mods when it comes to drivetrain issues that aren't part of a recall or well known TSB.

That being said, some dealers will just bill the hours to warranty and take the business instead of seeing you fuming and upset blasting out of the lot. Even though I made friends with my service adviser at the dealer near me, I still don't take my car in after the mods. Never gotten good work done at the dealer honestly.

Check with your dealer who would be doing any warranty work if your worried. Mine was okay with bolt ons, no tune though.

Mine said the warranty would be honored provided the modification didn't cause the subject issue.

Problem is what if the dealer mechanic decides the modification did cause the issue, even if it didn't?

weight reduction (muffler delete, lighter wheels, lose bodyweight..)
ported throttle body and GM intake
suspension bits
driver mod

Anything else is a risk for sure.

If the warranty worries you stay stock. At least you have +2 HP GM CAI that looks and sounds good.

But really though, are there threads where CA6 Camaros were denied warranty coverage?

If you ask me I think a Chevy CAI, a Ported TB, a ported stock manifold, a tune, and E85 will give a nice gain, (30+ HP?) and the car will look stock. Snowblind is running 11.10s with those mods, no CAI, a 3.73 diff and tires. How fast do you want to go?

The service manager at Phil Smith Chevy told me, don't tune the car. No worries.

When it's warranty work I have to pull the data from your car ecu send it to Chevy.

They tell me if it's been altered or not and if they will pay for the warranty work.

He said mod away. But tune will cause the issue.

Can people return their stock tune? Without the car saving info that it's been modified?

I would say more like 45-50hp. 25 would be just from the E85, 17 from the ported IM/TB, 5-6 from the CAI.
