Possible Dumb Questions - Buying a Procharger Kit without the Tune

So I went ahead and purchased a Procharger Stage 2 Kit with upgrade to P-1X head unit. Apparently, when you step up to the P-1X you do not have the option of buying a tuner with off the shelf tune to be packaged with it.

I am trying to find someone in my area to both install and tune for it. However, I wonder if I might save money by installing it at home and having it towed to the tuner (I have AAA).

But my question is, if you can't run the motor until you get a tune, how do you check if your installation was successful? Do you just hope you followed the instructions to the letter? Can you move the car at just idle to get it out of the garage so the tow truck can get to it? Is it OK to even just start the motor without a tune in place?

This is my first time taking an N/A car to forced induction...however, on my Subaru I was instructed to not even think about starting the car until I got a tune for it or even just a safe map so I could drive it to my tuner. Hell I don't even know what product to tune the car with.

We fired my car up before towing it to the tuner with the new gapped sparks in and everything. Doesn't make much boost without a proper vacuum seal and load. Just don't rev it, you don't need to. Don't drive it, that much it seems like you already know.

My build thread details my experience with it. Not a tough kit to put on at all. Just a few things to consider, but that's with any kit honestly.

You can get a tune with a P1X is the car is stock. (just like P1SC1)
However if the car is modified with headers, or more boost, then no.

Leave the MAF unplugged, and start the car up.
The car will run and drive perfectly fine, to get to your tuner.
However, just make sure not to get it into boost.

You could also leave the belt off the charger until you get to the tune shop that way you can accelerate as needed without building any boost.

Thats not needed, its very easy to drive without getting into boost.
I have put hours of drive time, without it.

Anything below half throttle is fine. (and thats a load of power)

What about a Borla S-Type Axle-Back? I was told that it disqualifies me from buying your tuner with the kit.

ALSO, I was told that I will need INJECTORS with this kit...I thought these kits were all-inclusive of everything but the tune.

I am so confused or stupid!

Understood...I had a P1SC setup when they first came out over 15yrs ago on a 4th gen. Was told to leave belt off until tuned. Im sure times have changed being cars are more powerful today and you dont need as much throttle to accelerate quickly.

I put about 90 miles on mine (F1a A2W) on the stock tune. Just don't go over 4000 and you'll be fine

Thanks! I am seeing about just getting the kit with the Tuner included...I feel less and less excited about lining up a tune around here as every person that I have been recommended wants Procharger's base maps and Procharger doesn't seem to provide those with the Tuner Kits.

this is one car where you absolutely positively don't want to guess when it comes to tuning. Why not make a trip out to some of the guys that have been dealing with the LT1 for a while already?

Ummmm, there are no injector changes with this kit.

Unless they are doing LT4 injectors for some reason.
However those don't come from us.

I would suggest your dealer drop a line to our sales department to line everything out, and make sure everything is on the same page.

Big red flag on the need for injectors. Bring it down to Kaizen Speed in the Tri-Cities. They know what they are doing when tuning an LT1/LT4. Lots of experience with SCs, particularly centrifugal SCs.
