Fuel types (for non americans)

Okay so, I got myself the new '17 camaro 2.0T, and in my country (Israel) we have either Octane 95 or 98, so I wanted to know, since it says Premium fuel recommended, and 98 is the premium here, should I use it? even tho in the manual it says it is recommended to use at least 93(?)..
Thanks in advance!

I don't think a 98 in Israel is equivalent to a 98 in the US.

That's exactly what I thought, I wonder how should I fuel it.

You should use the 98. Don't be helpless on this stuff, with Google I just typed in "is the euro 98 octane the same as the US? "......And got the answer.

EU ratings are 95/98, which are equivalent to US ratings of 91/93.

So, EU 95 octane = US 91 octane and EU 98 octane = US 93 octane.

Top performance with EU 98 octane = 93 US octane.
Small loss in performance with EU 95 octane = 91 US octane.

Just use 95, there's no butt dyno difference, there's no pinging and it's a little easier on the wallet. Even my 44 year old Vette runs fine on it.
Oh, for what's it worth my dealer advised the same thing.

This will explain it all to you. Read the sections on RON, MON, and AKI. At the bottom of the page, each country is listed and what they use. Israel and Germany use RON, the US uses AKI. RON tests result in higher octane values, MON tests result in lower octane values, AKI is (RON + MON)/2.

Israel probably uses Research Octane Number (RON) ratings for gasoline, instead of AKI (Anti-Knock Index) like the US or Canada does.

RON is a few points higher than the AKI number. So what would be 93 in the United States is going to be 97 or 98 in other places.

In general, when a manufacturer recommends 'premium' fuel ... go with whatever the premium in your area is.
