Discontinued Parts For 2017 2SS
My 2017 2SS was involved in an accident a few months back and the car needs a new steering rack and passenger front seat cover. No big deal right? Wrong, both of these parts have been discontinued by gm and they have no replacement part numbers for either. I have contacted several other dealers myself thinking my dealer was giving a line of bull. I got the same answer, discontinued and no replacement. Has anyone ever heard of this or offer any options? This is crazy, a 2017 that you can't get parts for!!!
Any help would be appreciated. |

That can't be. The new steering rack has to be out there. Your service dept is not looking correctly. Mfr has to supply parts for 9 years. Second the 2018 parts should fit.

And what dealer would even tell someone that? A dealer who doesn't want to sell parts or make money. WTF? |

Assuming it turns out that you can't get, try salvage yards for wrecked Camaros

We even tried That GM Parts Guy. He told us the same. When I called they said they were going to escalate it. We will see, they have not called back yet. It just makes no sense that you can't get parts for current model year vehicle. |

Since there is no apparent Engineering difference for the 2018 car versus the 2016 or 17 car, GM probably uses the 2018 part to service 2016 and 2017 cars in order to stock only one part number. It is also cheaper for GM to just add the service parts to production parts orders. If that is the case, it will be in the form of a service parts kit, that would include any parts required (if any) to make the 2018 part work for the 2016-17 cars.

A friend of mine has a Z/28 and was told that about several parts he needed. Seems impossible to me, but this kind of confirms it for now until someone hears from GM.

Just an update. Gm next day aired the rack yesterday and the dealer received and installed today. Still nothing on the seat cover. Part number 84140058. Dealer is still waiting to hear back. They had said it was shipping with the rack but it was a no show today.

Is it possible all new parts are being used for production and piece parts maybe on back order?
