What would it take to sound like this?

Appears to be a newer CLA45 AMG. Merc really has the exhaust sound figured out on their 2.0t! Sounds like someone is snapping a baseball bat on upshifts, and downshifts sound completely amazeballs.

Holy smokes... Sounds almost like a catless, straight pipe with a muffler delete but the sound is being tuned somehow to make sex in my earholes.

Like I've said before the stock SRT4's sound pretty dam good and they pretty much just had cats and resonators. Someone should try adding a resonator or 2.

for fun... Lets look at the differences we know about the M133, and the LTG

Bore / Stroke
LTG= 86mm / 86mm
M133 = 83mm / 92mm

Could the longer stroke have something to do with the sound?

Compression ratio
LTG = 9.5:1
M133 = 8.6:1

Max engine speed:
LTG = 7000
M133 = 6700

Both have a twin scroll turbo, the M133 sees about 26psi of boost stock, the LTG typically 18-20

the amg his a similar looking suitcase muffler to the Camaro and ATS, but it's about 50% smaller looking. The exhaust has some sort of magical flap that varies in position with throttle position and engine load (*cough* variable back pressure down pipe sound familiar? *cough*)... Looks to have just a single 12" or so bullet resonator under about the drivers seat.

Can't find anything that tells me the firing order, to see if its any different, cam specs or anything else... I read an article that says it cuts injection and ignition during hard upshifts to give it that sound.

Great sound! Would be nice.

This CLA45 is indeed modified. The parts list is in the description of the video. Intake, catless dp, exhaust system (probably without mufflers) are the main noise makers.

Yeah, it looks like the mod list is for this guy's WRX.

Jason, I was thinking along the same lines as you. I'd bet that the right cam specs could make it happen.

I'd love to get my hands on a stock tune file for a CLA45. Just to see how they are getting the upshift crack.

That's what 400 + HP sounds like being squeezed out of a 2.0

Ugh, between this and the 2.5 turbo in the 718 Porsche, so many good sounding 4 cylinders!

I'm so glad to read you guys sharing the same desire. Personally, I see too many guys chasing the Honda fart-can sound which is just terrible. The controlled, deeper, muffled-but-not-silent sound, plus the perfect burble and pop during shifts is the stuff 4cylinder legends are made of.
Cut-outs?-for drag racing yes, everywhere else no!
No cats, no muffler, and straight pipe? - for drag racing yes, everywhere else no!
Louder does not mean cooler.

Take a look on YouTube for one of Matt Farrah's OneTake shows where he drives the GLA45 AMG with mods. Slightly loud, but damn near perfect 4cyl sound.

Yeah, I've read several times, with increased HP comes the sound, from people trying to deter others from just sound mods like mufflers/deletes/etc.

I bet if someone had a 400+ hp LTG it might sound a lot different than these bolt on specials.
