running a procharger and the standard bypass valve? Might want to look in here

Might want to take a look at yours too, have been battling boost leaking since i installed my kit to the point where we've had the bumper off 3x to triple check connections.....come to find out its the valve itself. It doesn't seal whatsoever. seems i'm not the only one either, Sarah D just posted on the 6th gen facebook page a pic of hers too and that's what prompted me to check mine. Not sure all of them are bad or just mine and what looked like the gals from Facebook but these look massed produced so its not likely isolated but who knows

I plan to call them monday, but hopefully one of their guys is online today and will see this.

added a video to show what i am seeing a bit better:

Wow!. that doesn't look right at all!. Does it seem like an adjustment issue or a design flaw?

Butterfly valve is fully closed, this simply shows the clearance left by the machining process. Bad design. If ATI feels that's an acceptable amount of leak, I'd be shocked. Any boosted applications we've done before no amount of leak was acceptable. Just uploading a video demonstration now to YouTube. I'll attach it here shortly

Well ****... does this mean we have to see our tuners again?

Hopefully Erik can chime in and put some perspective on this. I don't mind running the race valve if I must but it would have been nice to know about this before we went out and dropped cash on tuning. A 5 psi drop seems pretty drastic.

Found this as well. Looks like procharger made a mention in the comments.

Maybe we can get this clarified too...... Is the valve not shut all the way during a lack of vacuum and reopened during vacuum?

Seems like the rep that commented is saying that the leak is part of operation?

Akh i knew i should have stayed off the forums today lol

Erik chimed in on Facebook. Said it was designed that way. Says all butterfly valves leak like that but the blower makes up for it. Obviously that answer doesn't jive with me. So a boost leak is allowed because the blower has more than enough capacity to make up for it? He says the benefits of the faster actions of the butterfly valve outweigh the leak. I have a piston style valve coming from tial, I'll do a back to back comparison and see if I can not only log a boost change but feel/the difference and then dyno if so.

Do you have a link to the BOV? It would be cool if we get a different sound out of that thing too. I used to have a synapse BOV on my turbo mustang. That thing sounded awesome.

That's normal and has been like that for several years. Can you switch to something and pick up a little boost maybe maybe not,

If you switch don't cry if the valve hangs closed when you let off the throttle

The valve on a plunger/piston style valve one won't hang. That's the style I'm going to. Just like I have run on every other boosted vehicle I've owned previously.

correct that's the only style I run too. I've seen the others hang and stall closed..

This thread should be locked,..... this literally is getting old chasing around FB and now the forums, on something that isn't even an issue.

TRUST ME GUYS, that tiny tiny tiny leak of like less than 2 cfm, is NOTHING to worry about when your blower is moving HUNDREDS of CFM!!!

The blade doesn't make contact because you don't WANT IT TO.
Same reason your TB doesn't actually make 100% contact.
Cause if it did, it could get stuck with temperature changes and wear.

Due to a very simple aerodynamic principle called "Vena Contracta" (google it) the leak this valve has at low CFM stays the same as pressure and flow increase behind it.

PLEASE DO NOT GET SUCKERED INTO BUYING SOMETHING YOU DON'T NEED!

NOTE: If you do want to waste $$$, we do offer a "Bullet" valve, that has a 100% seal. (which again, will show no change in boost pressure)
