PDR Microphone

Anyone know how to remove the cover that houses the PDR camera and microphone? I'm trying to remove the cover and get to the microphone to test out some wind buffering covers. Not sure what directions the clips are and I don't want to break it.

I have no clue, but I would try the same if you figure out the mic location.

The microphone is definitely through this small hole. I started a recording and tapped the bluetooth mic location and this one. Could barely hear the tapping on the a-pillar.

I thought it used the same mic as the Bluetooth, in the a pillar?

So did I, but reading around said that is uses a dedicated mic. It's in housing in the above picture.

NICE! I literally might tape a cotton ball over it and see if it helps with wind noise at my track day on the Charlotte Roval on 8/29!

I got an idea! I might take the foam I pulled out of the intake sound tube and use it as a wind buffer here.

I can confirm that, because I use my PDR as a dash cam on daily commutes and I can take bluetooth calls without my PDR audio dropping out on the recordings.

I like it. Should only need a tiny piece. I'll give that a shot today and see if it works. I'd really like to get to the microphone itself to be able to cover it completely if possible.

Yeah I would like to see some information on how to access the mic inside the casing as well.

I stuffed a tiny bit a foam in that mic hole and seemed to help ever so slightly. Still a lot of wind noise above 100. Really need to get to the mic itself and see if that works.

It's also possible that the mic hole isn't a sealed connection directly to the pickup and that the entire front area where the camera is located is opened enough to affect it. Might also need to put foam (a ring) around the lens and behind it to stop buffeting there as well from reaching the area adjacent to the pick up.

I think that is probably the case too. Getting to the mic directly should take care of that. I have a track day this Saturday and I'm too chicken to mess with the cover any further in fear of breaking the clips. Then I'd be really SOL lol.

Did anyone make more progress with the buffeting problem?

Did anyone get any further with the PDR buffeting problem? This post caught my attention cause I get a ton of buffeting at the track (Watkins Glen & Road America), like others noted above 100 MPH especially. I was hoping to see if someone was successful in their attempts to deal with this before my next track day in 2 weeks. Thanks!

I've come up with the only solution I could figure out. I took down the camera unit, disassembled it, and made new connections to extend the microphone out to inside the trunk.

The larger problem is the sound processing ability on the camera board is just piss poor. Nothing close to the quality of GoPro.

I tested many locations for microphones inside the car, all of which still had sound cutting issues. My final install is I neatly concealed the cord with long extension all the way into the trunk.

I ended up using this microphone, http://a.co/ccXdI0F (even though the car is mono), as all the lapel mics I tried still had cutting issues. Check out my PDR video below to see how well it works compared to factory.
