whistle groan on shut down
Just installed a catch can on the clean side pcv line and a home brew air tube to replace the factory resonator. Now on shutdown I'm hearing a groaning whistle on shut down. What the heck is it?

I took a video in the garage today so there will be a youtube video shortly. I'm hoping its just normal turbo noise.

While running it makes kind of a resonating burbly noise and the shutdown whine is after 55 seconds. It doesn't really bother me other than that I want to know what it is. lol |

It's all clamped with 3/8" fuel line. I have an aluminum check valve on the way too.

Thats a 1/2" to 3/8" reducer. I'm going to pick up some more fuel line and extend it a little. Going to try and make that bend not as aggressive. Also, do you know if mishimoto will just sell the tap for their set up?

Well, today before shut down I just pulled the line going into the can off and the noise is gone. I think my line inside the can is too small and not letting it breath properly.
Going to try to drill the inlet to snake the 3/8" line through the fitting and down into the can baffling. Oemtech, thanks for the explanation and I just got the same check valve in the mail. I'll re-route the dirty side through the can and just do the check valve on the clean side for now. I have a birthday coming up so a mishi single can with the tap might be in my future! Future plans is to use my big can for the tap connections and the small catch can for the external pcv system. |

So I'm ever so slowly beginning to understand how his thing works. lol. Had a realization today when playing with installing the can into the dirty side line going to the turbo. Tried that check valve on the clean side, fired it up and had that whistle groan even louder than before. Finally just took the lines off and had a friend play with the throttle while feeling the lines for vacuum.
I'm totally surprised at the fact air can flow both ways from these lines! All the threads about this didn't make sense until this moment. I was under the impression the intake pulled vacuum on crankcase. Instead the engine pulls vacuum from the intake. (while not under throttle) So, the check valve is off now and the can is on the dirty side with no whistle. |

So here's attempt number 2 on the routing. I have the engine inlet going around the passenger side into the can. The can then goes into the metal line on the turbo.
![]() As for the clean side, I found this nifty glass fuel filter that will be spliced into the line below the engine cover. I just want to see for myself if its producing any oil. I'm a little apprehensive using the check valve there until (or if) a mishi can shows up due to multiple directions of airflow in this line.
