Chasing Horse Power and Secrets Learned

Here's one of the greatest self-taught automotive engineers.
https://youtu.be/eMusa5hZxtk

Gale Banks is one of sharing his discoveries during his 30+ years chasing FA horsepower gains and a Pioneer in FA Internal Combustion Engines.

When listening to Gale's lecture remember; He's an engineer NOT a public speaker. so its very dry.

Everyone here, from the novice to pro builders, can pick up some tips from his lecture and improve their hp performance.

Enjoy

Finally got a chance to take a look at this. It was a good reminder of the basics. This is why I have never really felt like I needed to install a boost gauge.

I enjoyed it and I really like how that iDash does the calculations. I would definitely rather have this then my boost gauge. The only thing my boost gauge has ever given me was an idea of where my car was performing from a baseline perspective. Best time when everything is perfect reading then you make your assumptions from there when it lowers as to why.

He brings up a point contention with regard to open element filters in the engine bay. Specifically, one that sits over the headers. All the centri supercharger systems available to us are setup in this manner.

I'm planning on installing a centri, due to cost and how easily reversible they are, but I still struggle with the air filter placement. That said, I've been told the intercooler mitigates the temperature such that it's really not an issue.

Considering the placement of the air filter, in the engine bay, is the intercooler really that effective?

I guess it's been proven that once the vehicle is moving more than like 5mph, the hot air that you would think you would get from the exhaust gets sucked under the car completely for the most part. At least that's what I've gathered from their tests.

Just need that flowtie. Sorry... Couldn't resist. But in all honesty I'd like to have my grill breathe better for air flow. Then again I still have that damn licence plate on too.

That copo style hood might do the trick too. And yes I haven't had the heart to put on my license plate yet. I do however keep the plate in the truck along with a broken bracket that I took off of a junk car, so I can say it just broke off and I ordered a new bracket.

Also personally knowing the cops in my town helps somewhat.

That makes some sense, and makes me feel a little better about going with a centrifugal. Thanks
