Let's talk catch cans

I added a Mishimoto piece when we bought the 2016 SS last summer. I check it approx. every 1500 miles, and it's usually about 1/8 full or so with oil reeking of gasoline.

I was going to order one for the new 1LE but someone was telling me that the 1LE's come with something already on them that basically functions as one. I can't find any info about this, though. What's the deal?

I don't think the SS and 1LE are any different under the hood. There's a factory can on the crank case vent side which some claim isn't the best spot. All these aftermarkets are for the PCV side and you'll get both opinions on what is necessary.

Yes there is an Air oil separator on the passenger side of the motor, its triangular shaped and drains back to the oil pan.

Elite E-2x, catches a ton of stuff, easy ball valve to dump it, no unscrewing or disassembly required

The one that comes on the car is technically on the "wrong" side. Does it help, sure...but so does using top rated synthetic oil, and a catch can.

Love mine. Install was a little bit of a challenge but nothing major.

As said, the LT1 Camaro has one on the passenger side of the engine near the front right to the side of the intake elbow as it enters the throttle body. Even with it I still added the Mishimoto CC to my 1LE and I also pull several ounces of oily liquid out every 1k miles or so.

I've got the Mishimoto can for my 1LE and it's caught quite a bit.

Installed at 3k miles on my 1LE. I drain it every 3k and it never fails to have about a 1/4 inch of oil in it.

Ok, sounds like you guys are telling me what I already knew (before this other guy threw me off) - the aftermarket catch can on the other side does catch a fair amount of oil. The mishimoto piece I have on the 16 is fine - was easy to install, catches oil, not too bad to empty, etc...but I noticed a distinct gasoline smell in the garage (mornings) after I installed the can. I tighten the lines and the smell lessens for a day or 2, then returns.

So, what is another good option - that elite E-2x that Maga mentioned above?

I will be adding one to mine. I kinda want a recirculating can that drains into oil pan but for the drivers side. I have one from o34 motorsports on my audi that works wonders.

I enjoy emptying it. Kinda weird maybe but feels like I'm cleaning out the crap.
