Hi, I just went from Honda to Chevy!
This is a long read but I hope it receives great discussions! Thank you!
Hello to the Camaro6 forum family, I have been lurking on here for the past month as I pondered on deciding whether or not to pull the trigger on a 2017 Camaro SS. My first car, 2009 Honda Civic, started to experience a faulty A/C system and I decided that I did not need to invest more money into the car so I started car shopping. My list was simple: Chevy Camaro, Dodge Challenger, Nissan 370Z, and Lexus RC. Fast-forward a week, I decided on the Chevy Camaro SS. After a few days of driving it, I am glad I did. I do have a few questions I'd like to hear your opinions about. A little background... 1st Generation Asian American here. Both of my parents came to the country as teenagers so they are pretty "Americanized" although they hold on to their Asian culture close (which I am glad as I am very open to new cultures). My mother was a rock-n-roll chick and my father was a disco-guy (how they refer themselves as). I grew up appreciating all types of art, music, and cultures. Never had I solely judged a book by its cover. Growing up with Fast & Furious, Initial D, Need for Speed, and etc. I was always more inclined to JDM. Coming from Asian culture, we are "expected" to drive Euro/Japanese luxury to obtain status. My father, the only one from his siblings, went against all of these and fell in love with American muscles. He drag raced in local street events with his Trans AM and talked about how fat his tires were. I remember all of the die-cast car collecting he had and all of the times I went out to drag racing competitions in the state. He even sponsored a driver for a few years just to see his business name on the side of the car. Fast-forward a few years after college, my friends (most of which are Asian) are driving new cars and most of which are foreign makes (Nissan, Infiniti, BMW, Mercedes, Honda). But for me, I fell in love with the Camaro the moment I sat in it at the dealership. I do not believe I have seen a single Asian drive domestic brands and I am not sure if it is because they fear of what people will say of them or they still think American cars are "inferior" to Foreign brands. Even 1 of my co-worker (who is caucasian) stated "why the hell would you go for a LEMON CAR." I looked at him in confusion... I think the old stereotype is dying out... From time to time, I wonder if going for the Lexus RC was a better choice, the Camaro SS has always brought a big forced smile on my face as I drive it. I am a proud owner and as the warranty expires, I look to work on it as I plan to carry on the tradition my father introduced me to. Aesthetic upgrades are planned but I'll wait until more aftermarket options arrive. For now and always, I LOVE THE CLEAN LOOK of the 2017 Camaro and I know it will be a lasting car as the years roll by. Coming from a Honda Civic, nothing can explain the difference in ride experience. What do you guys think? Is it weird to you than an Asian drives a Camaro? Anyways, thanks for your time. One love, DADBOD out |

CONGRATS on your ride and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5/6. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wives', husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy.
oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!!

Don't over think it. Drive what you like. My next door neighbor is 4'11" 65 yer old Phillipino lady. Bought a Canary yellow Mustang in 2007. She also has a Toyota Tundra pick up. Drive what makes you happy.
