Had this happen once. I disconnected all the plugs going to amp. Then i started the car and ran for a min or 2, then turned off the car and waited 5 min and plugged all the plugs back in and it was gone. It's the hmi update screen.

As noted, that isn't a normal screen. That is a system update screen and generally, shouldn't be user accessible. If you have a USB drive plugged in, there could be a stray file on it triggering the update routine, or in the unlikely event that you may have plugged something in to the USB port under the dash.

Unplug all devices and cables, power down the car (and system) and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

If you see this more than once, let your dealer take a look at it.

If you are using a USB media drive, you might consider moving your files off it, reformatting and then copying your media back, paying attention to the files that come over.

Nothing in the USB drive. Just came out of no where. Disconnected the negative terminal and it came back all normal.

I got a few things to discus with the dealer now when I take it in for first oil change but man, I feel like I need to disconnect the negative just a little more than I should....

GM is now pushing some updates out thru the OnStar data system in the cars. I've seen this screen in my 2016 Sierra, supposedly it will update and go away on its own.

all is well now. Upon searching, i found a thread on a Colorado forum about this and they said its dealer time no matter what. Guess those boys aren't hip to the negative terminal pull lol

Waiting for update media

Just happened to my 2017 2SS today. Started the car up after lunch and the screen was black at first. Shut the car off / back on and then the waiting for update media screen came back on.

Chrest, Have you brought yours into the dealer yet? Just curious what they did if anything.

Cheers!

i did not. I pulled the negative cable for a while and when i hooked it back up all was well.

Ive had a couple different weird electrical gremlins since ive owned this thing and a negative battery cable pull always seems to fix my issues.

I have lots to discus when i take this in for its oil change. I try to avoid the dealer as much as possible but i will inquire about some of these issues ive had

Now imagine you're just driving along with Android Auto and Google Maps / Waze running you to your destination of which you've never been to before and POOF that screen appears!

Went out this morning, and mine was working fine... I didn't even pull the battery cable. I still dropped it off at the dealer this morning, and told them to take a look at it.

Thanks again for the quick reply!

that would suck! I hope whatever the ghost in the machine is that is making this happen gets sorted out. My dealer was less than friendly this morning when I dropped it off, and didn't even seem interested in having me explain what happened. So, I guess we'll see what they figure out, if they even look at it.

Well, just a quick update. I got the car back from the dealer and they said that an update for the HMI was needed. They applied the update and said I should be fine going forward. I guess we shall see.

Happy motoring Gang!
