So went in for my first oil change and was told my car didn't need one at 2600 miles with 64 percent life left on it said these new cars aren't like that of the old...is this true??

You should change your oil now. I had my dealership do my first one around 1,500 miles.
In other words, your dealership is a moron.

I bet your oil is still real clean...I'm doing mine every 3k regardless. I'm at around 2600 now.
Still, I know others who got their first change at 500 & dealer didn't care...really shouldn't matter to them when the customer wants it, but they aren't incorrect per say. |

No, GM doesn't care when you do your two changes for free, If it's in the first two years. Find another dealer.

For your first oil change, it depends. If I were you, I'd have asked them outright what they consider the proper criteria. Otherwise, any response from members of these forums is just useless conjecture if they keep denying it. The first oil change should be done sooner since the engine is being broken in and there's higher chance of more particulate matter ending up in the oil. Beyond all this, though, the bottom line is that the dealer has no real right to deny you when you decide you want your oil changes under warranty. You're entitled to it.

It's still your choice, not theirs.

On the GM truck side of things, both Chevrolet & GMC were able to refuse to do the free maintenance oil changes unless the oil life monitor was at or below 15%. Some dealers did do them upon request at any time while others refused until the olm criteria was met. Am not sure how the program has changed or how it affects Camaro/Corvette type performance cars.
Personally, if you want to stick with your dealer or if that one is the only one near you. Do the first oil change yourself & let them do the following two. Just make sure to keep your receipts & purchase oil with the dexos stamp. |

I had mine changed (free) with less than 500 miles and 7-months on the clock (winter stored). Was not a problem at all........ I'd be changing Dealers......

I avoided taking it in for my two free changes. I hear they use a synthetic blend? That and I just have always done my own changes since I could drive. I have trust issues.

In the last several cars I have owned I always just stick with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. You can get a 5 quart container at Walmart for around $25.
No idea if this is the best oil to use but I have never had any issues related to oil in any car I have used this in. But I am also super anal how I change it. I get the oil to the point where it's dripping out very slow. Then flush another quart, wait until slow drip again, then fill. |

FYI GM switched to full synthetic within the last year. Just had my first at the dealer and confirmed the same.
