Sound Tube Mod (More Induction Sound)
Reposting this from the 1LE thread in case people are missing it. I've got mine pulled out now and still debating whether I'll keep it like this. The foam appears to be reduce some "unwanted noises" for AFM cars during switching. But it definitely makes the engine sounds louder in the cabin during WOT. Credit to NBR IPD for posting this!

Thanks for the repost. I had done it, but stuck the foam back in. It was just too much intake noise for my taste, stock sound is enough IMO. Without the sound tube, the cabin was just too annoyingly quiet.

Couldn't resist trying it out lol. It is a noticeable change. Don't seem to hear a bad intake noise. Gonna leave it as is for now. Contemplating removing it all together when I put headers in. Love the sound of our american chevy V8

And wot is definitely noticeable! Contemplating removing it all together when I put headers in. Love the sound of our american chevy V8

Your an M6, the current theory is the foam is for AFM b/c it does make a louder sound when transitioning. Can't really describe it. Essentially they used the foam to reduce that sound.

I get what you're saying...but then why bother? Imagine the money they spent designing that and passed that on to the consumer...

It's very common for cars to have these nowadays, either mechanical or electronic since insulation has become that much better at hiding engine bay noises. The problem is people complain then they can't hear the engine. The amount of people who don't like the "pumped in" sound on a completely stock car is tiny compared to those who would complain it was too quiet. That's all the justification they need. Now when you starting adding aftermarket exhaust, CAI, headers, etc... the benefits of this thing fade away.

Pulled the foam out a few days ago. It is definitely louder but had a couple weird noises from it transitioning from v4 to v8 mode. Sounds good tho. Debating if I'm going to put it back in

I replied on the original thread under the 1LE section. Finally pulled it out tonight but haven't had the time yet to take a spin in my SS! Will go out tomorrow and see how it sounds inside the car.
