Gen 6 Zl1 1le OR mod base Gen 6 Zl1.

So I'm curious what you guys think about the following:

Does anyone have any idea or speculation if it'd be possible to mod a base Gen 6 Zl1 to the new Gen 6 Zl1 1le specs? Except for some MAJOR stuff like the suspension?

I ask this because I would love to upgrade to a new Gen 6 Zl1 1le eventually but I DON'T want the 1le suspension that comes in it. I love the new looks and aerodynamics. But other than that the base Zl1 (in a 6 Spd of course) is good enough for me. Plus I LOVE magnetic ride control. Still great on the track yet awesome for daily driving as well.

Just curious what you all think or may now base on previous experience.

Also I'm sure more Zl1s would be available on the lot vs the Zl1 1le, and as the 1le is released the base Zl1 price would probably drop down some.

Thanks!

If you just want the look of the 1LE, get the base ZL1.

As you mentioned the magnetic ride control is great for a daily driver. The ZL1 1LE is going to be a rough ride on public roads.

If you want a car to track, then no doubt get the ZL1 1LE.

I would think by the time you buy wheels, tires, spoiler, dive planes and different gearing you are nearing the 1le up charge.

I also think that there are some things that are mechanical and can NOT be added. I believe that the 6th gear in the ZL1 1LE is different. Also, the front splitter and front grille are different and unsure if it is as easy as replacing the front bumper or not. If just for appearance get the ZL1. You get the best of both worlds and come close to the look of ZL1 1LE with the mag ride of ZL1.

You could probably do the thinner rear glass.. if you really wanted.. but it wouldn't be cheap I'd guess. Even front glass replacement w/o insurance is costly. And, I doubt you'd get much return other than just road noise.. Remember, 1LE only saves 60lbs over non in same/same configurations.. So, don't chase weight.

^^ same goes for the fixed rear seat (why do that to yourself for a few pounds)

We'll end up with 19" forged wheels you can run w/ Mag Ride (and then it'll be a matter of the right tire/offset).

The wing is a non-issue, just money and holes in your trunk to cover up/drill depending on its mounts.

Guess the front fascia is a non-issue over the money + paint / install and disconnection of your existing DRLs.

The trans in 1LE vs non-1LE is up to you on how much you really wanna chase it.

I don't know who is making suspension parts (haven't looked). Back in Gen5 I know PFADT made solid cradle mounts for the car but they transferred a decent amount of noise to the cabin. Not sure where all else that they changed up the 1LE suspension (outside of the listed adj sways..) If you're keeping your MagRide, then you'll skip the DSSV and their adjustable settings up top.

honestly, you'd improve your performance a ton with just a better tire wheel combo.. I'd do that first, then even more braking.. Then worry about aero after that if you're still hunting time. I'd bet with Wheel + Tire + Brakes, you'll see average lap MPH up and time down in a fairly decent amount.

Only thing I did was wrap the hood. It's matte charcoal metallic and it matches the wheels and the grey in the exposed carbon fiber insert, I like it better than the flat black. End of mods for now
