You don't have to change the Camshaft if you want to improve exhaust noise. There are several Hi-Performance aftermarket exhaust systems that have been posted about in that sub-forum and the guys love the sound.

If you change the Camshaft you're going to have to change the Tune($$) and possibly adjustments to the fuel/induction system, (more $$) to keep up with the Camshaft profile and it's going void your GM warranty.

Just my 2 cents,

Good Luck and have fun.

It's worth noting that if you have an automatic, anything larger than their SV camshaft will require a different torque converter to run. With that in mind, that could prove tricky as very few people have swapped theirs out and even fewer tuners have attempted to get aftermarket torque converters on these cars to play well. If you have a manual, I think all you'll need is a bit more throttle to modulate yourself off the line better.

I used an LTVV1 in a 2016 Camaro and a LTVVTSV in a C7 Corvette and both act and work great with the stock torque converter. If you go with the VVT2 it would not be happy with the stock torque converter.

Hey Charlie, I am looking at installing a LTVVT1 cam in a 2017 ZL1. Since you have had one in a 2016 SS I just wanted to ask, did you have any surging or bucking at idle? You mentioned that it worked well but everyone has their own opinion of what "well" or "livable" is! Would you by chance have any video of either the SS or C7 with the cam?

Thanks

My opinion would be :
1) Drivability
2) Performance
3) Sound (idle quality)
I think and hope most would agree with an aftermarket cam in this order.
Next would be MY preference.
GPI SS1
BTR Stage 1 N/A
Both will net about the same HP and great overall performance, while still being mild mannered enough to not allow any "push" through the stock torque converter. But there's another one I'm adding to the list. Lingenfelter GT32. Excellent specs and should net nearly the same performance as the two aforementioned. This one just might go in mine next month. Also just as important as the cam itself is its supporting cast. A really nice valve job right along with a BTR .660 spring set and CTSV-R lifters will make a great cam an awesome cam... Hopefully I was helpful...

If sound is all you want look into a "ghost cam" essentially a tune that gives you the lump you're looking for but with the stock cam.

I am more than a month out for my build, but was wondering about lifters as well. Currently I am thinking LS7. Take a look at this thread:https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ts-vr-ls7.html

Am also contemplating a TSP VVT stage 2 vs BTR NA/SC cam, however, I am not sure I want to go with a lash cap on what will most likely remain a NA build.

DFW1LE, with stock cam lobe you dont need a lash cap. The stage 2 tsp vvt2 i have is just that. I originally thought id stay na, now im leaning towards supercharging down the road. Planning on going with a custom grind for decent power na now, but will also work great later with the charger.

Yes, I know that. TSP's stage 2 offers a +32 and +10 fuel lobe. The +32 requires a lash cap, but I suspect the +10 does not. Obviously a stock fuel lobe profile does not. BTR's NA/SC is +38 fuel lobe and definitely needs a lash cap. I am not sure if I will eventually SC on top of the NA build, but I'm starting to think if I do, I may not need these SC designed fuel lobes, as my car already has a ZL1 in tank pump, and I could easily add an LPE HP pump and that should be enough for my purposes as I would not be looking for huge power numbers anyway.

The CTSV-R Lifters are a cut above the LS7's. And from what I've read are lighter. Valve train stable to around 8500 rpm's where as the LS7's although great, don't necessarily give that amount of confidence. So for a few more hundred, my opinion is its money well spent.

I had thought about the Caddie racing lifters as well, but some of the comments in that link concerned me.
