Running my track setup without TPMS?
About to have my new wheels and tires mounted this weekend and was wondering if I could forgo putting my TPMS sensors in without any issues. Would rather not have to take it somewhere all the time to have the TPMS sensors from each set re-paired to the car.

Nick,
Have you tried putting them on the car, Removing ALL THE AIR. Key on, Key off, Fill them all back up and key on? Obviously this is if you decide to get TPMS sensors.... Used to work on my Mustang. Not sure about the camaros. I got new TPMS sensors for my track wheels but didnt get the learn tool yet. I will try it out when I get them and let you know. |

I don't run TPMS sensors in my track wheels and there are no issues except the little orange icon on the dash.

I would rather check and adjust my tires throughout the day myself than trust the TPMS.
I don't have them in my FS01s. No issues.

Non-1LE's don't have PTM modes, right? A TPMS issue will prevent cars equipped with PTM from going into PTM mode. If that isnt an issue for you, then I don't see a reason you "need" the sensors. With that said I have a set in my track wheels and I bought a $40 remote so I could repair the car when I switch wheels.

You don't need them but I want to note that I am impressed with the seeming accuracy of these TPMS sensors.
As I was airing up my tires this weekend, I watched from the dash as the PSI went up in each tire matching what the gauge on my tire compressor was showing. Pretty cool. The one advantage I can see is that if you trust the TPMS readout on the dash, you no longer have to do the hand gauge measurements between runs. Which adds convenience and saves time. You can also see what they are at during your hot laps by glancing at the readout rather than wait until you get into the pits...so you know the PSI your tires run at when you are at 10/10ths not just after you've let them cool a bit as you coast into the pits. Did that make sense?

PTM uses the tpms to tell what the tire temps are to assume grip levels. I suppose there are default modes if tpms is non functional. But steering/exhaust modes should not be affected

If you're running R-comps or only something like RE71R's, ST might leave more usable grip "on the table" than necessary because it doesn't know how much grip is really available. Sound reasonable? Norm

No issues with non TPMS wheels other than the indicator light as mentioned above.
However I bought a $38 tool on Amazon that will make my car read the new TPMS setup for the new wheels. They don't automatically pick up the new wheels and new sensors. For that matter, they will not even pick up the same factory sensors if you rotate non-directional tires side to side. The tool resets the TPMS so it can read the sensors for that particular wheel. I find tire pressure readings are helpful in autox and I like others here find the readings pretty accurate.
