Does the 2LT 1LE pricing even make sense in Canada?

Hey all,

I posted a thread earlier in the General Discussion waffling between a 2SS and 2LT 1LE. My initial thinking was I wanted a loaded car as my daily driver, but was unsure if it was worth paying the extra $10,000 to go from the V6 to the V8.

However, after reviewing the configuration tool, I noticed the Convenience & Lightning package has to be added to the 2LT 1LE to match the 2SS. Once you add that, the price differential between the two is only $4,000.

Am I crazy or is the 2LT 1LE really priced poorly in our market?

Everything is priced poorly in Canada. Get a fuller loaded 2SS in Canada for more than people pay for a ZL1 in the States.

Canada sells less vehicles per year than California does. Just California let alone the rest if the country.

We are a small market and we get the short end of the stick. Plus our dollar right now...

Damn, reading your post I just remembered you cant get the 1LE package on a 1LT. That kills the whole idea of a V6 1LE for me.
I would say you should figure out a specific dollar figure for your budget, then decide which way to go.
The 2LT 1LE costs about the same as a 1SS with very few additional luxuries to show for it IMO.

The 1LE package is only available with a manual transmission so can you not get the LS with V6 and 1LE package? the LS is what was initially the manual trans option for the 1LT.

The pricing is absolutely terrible and I'm not sure if that'll ever change until maybe the 2017 clearance event occurs. Even then we'd be lucky to get a half decent deal. Up in the north we get shafted on car deals all the time. I'm in the market for a 2SS and it seems like MSRP would be almost 60k to grab a 2SS with NPP + MRC based on what I found online. It almost makes me want to consider another car entirely or just get some 5 year old used car instead

I've mentioned this as well... When I was making up my mind, I was going either 1LT or 2SS. Anything in between simply didn't make much sense. If you have all the features of a basic 2SS with the V6, you are only paying a little less which eliminated 2LT as a possibility. I found the features going from a 1ss to 2ss was definitely worth the extra money, so it was either 1LT or 2SS.

In the end, I got a 2LT, but the only reason was because I got it for 13k under MSRP - which was lower than the price of the 1LT, IE - steeper discounts. Had I been able to find a 2SS with that same discount, it would have been a no brainer.

I think this is true for US pricing as well though. 1Lt or 2ss all the way = best bang for your buck.

Canadian pricing is actually really good if you consider the current exchange rate. MSRP for a 2LT is $31,400USD in the US and it's $36,300CDN in Canada. If we paid the full exchange rate on the US price, it would be over $43,000CDN! That would be almost $12,000 more than the US price, or almost $7000 more than what we actually pay. It's an even 'better' deal on the higher trim levels. At the full exchange rate, we should be paying over $10,000 more for the 2SS trim than we actually do. So it could be much, much worse. Furthermore, last time I checked, GM is cutting Canadians a better deal on the Camaro that Ford is on the Mustang.

Don't get me wrong, I wish I could pay the US price in Canadian dollars. But all things considered...

Very dumb question maybe.. But how exactly do you net these dealer discounts? Did you have to hustle it out of them by saying you might get a mustang or something, or was it simply just offered?

Considering the popularity of the mustang it's also a buttload easier grabbing a lightly used Stang over the camaro. Could be a Vancouver thing considering everyone and their moms have a mustang in most parts.

Sure, but you have to remember Purchasing Power Parity and the Budget Constraint. Even if the Canadian price is cheaper when converted US dollars, we still get paid in Canadian dollars. Since salaries are not drastically different between the US and Canada, $49000 Canadian for a 2LT 1LE is a larger percentage of your budget than in the US.

Or conversely, a US dollar buys more car as a percentage of a person's absolute budget than a Canadian dollar.

Edit: You also have to remember that the US manufacturer incentives are far, far better than the Canadian incentives. Right now you can get 20% off Camaros or SRT Dodge vehicles. In Canada? Your choice of $4,00 0 off if you pay cash or 0% financing.

It was a 2016 at the end if february this year. That accounts for most of the discount. The rest was simply the dealer knowing it was a sale and knowing i wasnt going to buy a 2017 or anything else. It was now or never and they knew it. They had that car on yhe lot since the 2016s firat came out and had 2017s similar so getting rid of it was priority... Stars lined up basically. Mustangs in halifax are about 10 to 1 ratio over a camaro. I've yet to see another 6th gen out here

I just found one in the online inventory for Paul Sadlon in Barrie, could be an incoming order for a customer though.
