2017 SS tires, which to use?
Living in the Twin Cities I had planned to use Goodrich g-force 2a/s all seasons from Nov thru March on stock wheels and the stock Goodyear's April through October on aftermarket wheels. But one thought is to just use the Goodrich's all year long avoiding two sets of wheels/tires. Would the Goodyears be THAT much better in the summer than the 2a/s's? Have any of you put on the Goodrich 2 a/s tires, and if so what is your opinion of them? My car is being built this week. Thanks.

All of my in-laws are from and live in the Twin Cities. Being that I know they do a better job of keeping the roads clear, is this going to be your daily driver?
If I was going to run a All Season tire it would be the Continental DWS06 or the Michelin Pilot A/S3 if it was me. Both are the best all season tire on the market and are also considered a ultra high performance all season as well. We have the Conti DWS06 on our Audi SQ5 and I can tell you those tires don't give up much grip at all, they do great in rain/snow/ice as well. Last edited by TJay74; 04-26-2017 at 10:03 PM. |

I like what I'm reading about the Michelin Pilot 4S. Looks very close to the Goodyear F1 but has better tread life..
Maybe worth checking into

I'm using according to tirerack.com the best budget Ultra High Performance tires, the Sumitomo HTR Z3, they have a the same speed, heat and traction ratings as the Goodyears but a longer tread life. So far with 2,000 miles on them they are pretty good tires for only $143 each. They are however not ROF tires.

I went with aftermarket wheels (wider) and just use the BFG Comp 2 A/S all year round. They are fine to use all year round and will last a lot longer than a summer tire.
The question is whether or not you daily your car and whether you plan to race or go to the drag strip. If you have a spare car for bad weather you could keep summers all the time. I don't daily my car, but went with A/S just so I only needed one set of wheels and not have to mount and balance twice a year. For me the BFGs have been fine for every day use. If you plan to hit the drag strip or race autocross, you will want to have a set of summer tires. Or at least from drag strip you could get away with just get 2 rear drag wheels with DRs. But if you just use the car for normal driving you will be fine with A/S tires. An A/S is essentially a compromise, it's not perfect in snow or so racing, but it's decent for dry & wet roads, good for someone who daily drives and does plan to race. |

If you're not going to track the car, then just get the all-seasons when the goodyears wear out.

Thanks for the input. Not going to track the car and just might use the Comp 2A/S's all year long. Won't be driving much if at all in the winter; but where I live the Goodyear's can't even be on the car sitting in the garage when temps get way below zero - they will crack. The 2A/S's ranked #1 on Tire Rack's most recent high performance all season tire comparison test and you seem to like them.

I had the BFG's on my '15 1LE in the winter here. Had no complaints whatsoever; but NC winters and your winters up in MN are different animals and sure you'll be just fine.

The BFGs sound like they will be fine for what you are using them for. They have plenty of grip on dry pavement for every day driving, and even aggressive driving, it's just that they are not designed for the track when every second counts and you need the soft sticky summer tire to help out with a launch. Every tenth of a second counts in a 1/4 mile, but for every day driving it doesn't, that's why the BFGs are more than adequate if you don't plan to race.
