Importance of rear Diff Fluid swap
I cant believe I didnt take pictures because I was in shock... the amount of metal buildup around both the fill and drain plugs after only 3500 miles is staggering... You guys that have been putting off the fluid swap like I have, get it done and absolutely dont even think about a track day before swapping.
Before the keyboard commandos come in here telling me its normal, I have done rear diffs on lots of cars and almost always switch my cars over to synthetic lubricants when I get them. I have never seen a rear end look like that after only 3500 miles. |

Yea I too have kinda been putting it off, but I will definitely be doing this before my Auto X event at the end of the month.

Just completed mine on Saturday with 1600 miles on the clock and while mine didn't look horrible, it wasn't great either. Would definitely suggest this to anyone who hasn't done it yet.
On another note, has anyone confirmed the difference between the diff and the ELSD on our cars? I searched our forum, the corvette forum, and the ctsv forum and everyone seems to have a different opinion. From my understanding, the diff gets the ACDelco 88862624 fluid. The ELSD has a completely separate tank/resoirvoir for it's fluid and it takes 5.4 qts of some fluid (sorry at work and not in front of my manual) and it doesn't need to be serviced nearly as often as the diff itself. If anyone can confirm this so my mind can rest on the issue that would be great. |

Fill plug, driver side axle , about parrallel with it, on the forward most side, drain is rear facing.
I bought 2 quarts of this. I ended up only getting a little over 1 1/2 qt. in https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |

This is the consensus that we have landed on as well.

Mine also looked pretty bad and some shavings on the drain plug at around 1800 miles.
I believe that is expected on the first change because of the break in period and then it should get better after a few changes. Tranny fluid, on the other hand, didn't look too bad. I hope that helps

Did anyone pay to have this done? AT around 900 miles I asked the dealer to change rear diff fluid and they talked me out if it, 1 price (quoted between 150 and 200 IF they had the fluid, a d 2. Their corvette "expert " said not necessary that early on.....
Was a huge red flag.....so I decided to put it off,.... |

http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showpo...9&postcount=50 Btw my mechanic only charged me half an hour for changing the rear diff fluid and I believe it shouldn't be more than an hour. I could've done that by my own but since I was going to need a few other things, I figure it'be best to all at once since the car is already on the lift. I will most likely change the diff fluid again (after the track season) and do it by myself.

I made sure that they would include the diff flush with my first oil change. Doesn't seem like it should be anywhere near that much though...
