educate me on catch cans

Is there any difference between any of them - or are they a simple commodity item?

What do I need to look for?

Thanks!

That's a very good thing, because if you search for it there's a thread by someone who DID have a problem and the dealer voided their warranty because of the catch can and logged it in the system on their VIN so it is on their car no matter which dealer they go to. It's like a 20 page thread. Not good.

Seems to me warranty application and interpretation is a variable by dealer. Which it should NOT be. The final decision should always be General Motors - the warranty is backed and supported by General Motors, and GM pays the dealer for the warranty work. If it was me, frankly, I'd welcome warranty work on any car even if the owner had built the damn thing into a dragster. Whatever was broken I'd submit all the information to GM and let them decide, and I'd try to push them into honoring the warranty. Because it means more work for MY dealer, better customer service for MY dealer, and is going to make that customer spread the word that MY dealer took care of him.

The more I read on this forum - the more I'm really glad I went with the dealer I did.

if anyone is in Norcal and wants a good shop that really knows Camaros and corvettes and supports racing - PM me.

Yes i can confirm that this systems works.

I have unmounted the pipe at the small catch can at the inlet pipe and it was bone dry!(now1400mls on the odo).

So no need to buy / mount a seperate system which can avoid my guarantee.

The factory system only works on one bank of the engine (V8). I would suspect the catch can or the install in this case. I have the Mishimoto can and in about 3000 miles, it was about 1/4 full. I've emptied it twice.

Here we go again.....the debate on whether it's good for blow by oil to go into your intake manifold and get burned up will go on forever. I personally can't see how this can be good for the long run, but others seem to think that if GM thought the engine needed it they would of engineered it that way. The truth is average people can't be trusted to clean them out regularly so they didn't. The only solution was to route it back through the intake manifold. In the real world it wouldn't hurt to add one because they DO serve a purpose. People are not adding them for their looks. The dealership might use it against you though to try and void your warranty. I would install it yourself so you know how the process is and if you ever have to take it in for anything just try and remember to remove it before. That is what I plan to do cause I am in the belief that they are needed for longevity. I try to avoid my dealership as much as possible anyway. If you don't plan to keep the car for longer than say 4 years then no way would I even bother. What's the point?
