New to tuning

I am thinking about purchasing HP tuners. I really want to learn how to tune so that in the future I can open my own shop for late model GM performance vehicles. I have zero experience tuning. I'm pretty mechanically inclined when it comes to learning new things but this would be a pretty big step for me. I was just wondering for you guys that tune how difficult is it to figure all this stuff out? Looking at the HP Tuners forums and some of their guides it seems a bit overwhelming. Thanks for any feedback.

There are many Tuner Schools you can enroll in. Just google and you will see how many.

I can tell you from experience that to become a "competent" tuner you need years of experience. I went through 6 years of engineering school and currently work at one of the big oem's doing tuning work and I am still overwhelmed by how much there is to know. If all you are looking to do is work with a wideband and correct the fuel so that you can account for modifications it is not THAT hard. It still isn't something you can learn to do well in a few months unless you have access to a dyno. Even then it's unlikely you will really understand what you are doing over that short of a time period.
