255/40-20 RE71R front ??? Sizing issue?
Could I get away with running a 255/40-20 re71r on the front and my stock 275 tires on the rear

I would do it. No question.
Difference is barely 1% Lucky if you will even be able to tell the difference. You will get some awesome steering input and you back end will get loose maybe a little easier with the worn rubber...................

Sound to me like you killed your front tires at the track ( I'm on the same boat).
Maybe you should consider a track oriented wheel alignment as well

If your car is a DD those tires will not last long at all. I would only run those on auto-x days.

Will 305's fit in the rear with stock ss wheels or is that too far?

In your case you can also take a look at Nitto NT01 as long as you stay away from the rain

If he keeps doing autox he'll want to stay with the re-71 so he can stay in F Street.
