First ever day at the track with my 1LE..(Pictures and a video)

My friend (X25) and I attended an Instructor Training event at ORP (Oregon Raceway Park) yesterday.

There were a couple Gen5 Z28s at the event also but didn't get a chance to lap with them and see how my car would stand against those. Since the training was taking place for full day, nobody really could get any clean lap time. With that said, it was still fun and a good opportunity to see how the car feels WOW, this car feels great and definitely track ready with just a little bit of understeer. Tons of power, grip everywhere and the breaking power! The best ever brakes on any car I've ever owned/built/tracked (thanks to ST43s ).. PERIOD!! Tire pressures were about 37-38psi after a few hot laps (cold pressures were 28psi all around and ambient temps were about 55) so I am almost sure in a hot day it would be very easy to overheat them. Using R comps should take care of that and also let me brake late.

Here are some pictures and a video from that day:

.

X25's (NA Build) Miata Club Edition.

Fire extinguisher use practice which I didn't want to partake

I used Race Render to create a split screen video and was using RaceChrono along with PDR. Akron headrest and Go Pro bar mount

This is the cleanest/ with the least amount of traffic lap. I had a chance to push the car a little bit. Tons of room for improvement:

Thanks, happy to hear that It is my favorite track for sure so I've been a club member ever since I moved to NorthWest. So many elevations changes and rollercoster like banks, very technical, safe and fun

It's been a while since the last time I drove in this configuration (CCW) so I was re-learning my ideal lines though

Thanks, this is "the best ever" car I've ever owned and tracked for sure. I am very impressed how capable it is in stock form (bone stock except track pads and Motul fluid). Before the end of the event, I had a chance to drive it in "Race" mode in PTM and I liked it the most. I didn't bother to get lap times since they changed the layout to practice bypass lane.

I am planning to write a detailed review about comparing this to my old S2000 and Supercharged BRZ track builds. Car has a lot of potential and I was nowhere near close to its limits

Thanks, the car has a lot to do with that also. It gives a lot of confidence and very easy to catch a slide since the steering is very communicative

Is the 37-38 tire temp or pressure?

ugh, it looks like I brainfarted for a second there.. 37-38psi tire pressures of course. I started with 28psi cold. That's pretty much I always do with all the cars I owned and try to target 35-36 psi hot pressures. I tried the Pyrometer with a friend also but it was not easy to do and as long as I have enough camber I didn't bother with temps that much

There's no replacement for displacement?
there's definitely no replacement for displacement IMO I tried but ran into many issues with FI (nothing catastrophic but time consuming and tiring).

I didn't have enough time to get more familiar with the car so for the next event I also want to track with the OEM tires. I feel I am very slow considering the potential of this car but hopefully I will get close to that

Also, I am not sure which might be more beneficial, TBH, since it looks like they might both have their advantages or disadvantages (slow car fast vs fast car slow). Also they might be true to a only certain degree. Slow is also a vague term, Miatas or S2000s are very fast around the track but very slow on anywhere else (highway, drag ..etc) they're fun though.. Except the BRZ, it feels very slow and gets boring easily without any power mod so maybe the answer is: It depends on the car and potential of the confidence and fun factor it provides, track-ability, cost of consumables.. without any of those who would want to go to events and learn more about the cars and improve themselves?

I'm with Vintage, that track looks like a blast! I'd love to go there, the elevation change looks great! On a really hot day those brakes will be working big time in those downward braking zones.

Great driving buddy!

Awesome, thanks for sharing! LOL @ still having the temp tag on the back.

I like how you did the video overlay, very nice. Man, that track looks like a roller coaster! Was that a yellow Taurus with a wing? I'm guessing LeMons practice?

Thanks I love that track too. This is the original (clockwise) rotation that I am more familiar with (video taken with my old Supercharged BRZ)

It looks like it, doesn't it? I still have the temp tag yes, haha. I've passed the 1500 mile mark on the way to the track
That Taurus and the Crown Vic are instructors' cars. They might be using them LeMons or Chump car races as you mentioned
