Pros and Cons: ECS vs Procharger

Im looking for input on both kits from those who have experience with the two. theres not much info out on ECS. Not worried about power levels or price as they are both pretty equal. looking for install and kit design pros and cons. Trying to buy something this week. Thanks

This info might be helpful regarding your question ... I posted this in the original ECS supercharger kit thread that featured my car.

Quote:
I was researching the Procharger (P1/D1 StageII) kits before I had the opportunity with ECS and now that I have had some time with the setup here are some of my opinions on advantages that the ECS kit vs the Procharger kits for the 6th Gen platform.

1) I like the fact that the ECS kit has a secondary drive setup and you don't have to mess with the stock crank pulley making the install a bit less painful. Also its nice to have the Cog drive setup on the supercharger drive side as this shouldn't have any issues driving the headunit to the max if desired with little to no belt slip. Also I like the mounting brackets with this kit and the free room the layout leaves you in front of the engine vs the Procharger setup.

2) As Doug said the price is right for what you are getting and the quality is there no doubt . With the way the regular ECS kit comes its configured very much like a Stage II Procharger setup already (Already has a Huge Front Mount IC, Race bypass valve, and etc) so your saving some dough there.

3) From what I have seen thus far I like the IC/Charge piping quality better in the ECS kits vs the Procharger kits that seem to have less actual hard piping and more soft material used. Also the ECS kit pipes are Aluminum and Procharger uses Mild Steel I believe.

4) Performance ... any of them will max out the stock fuel system easily ... but after upgrading all of that I think any of these kits on full tilt will also push the stock LT1 to its near limits (~750 whp).

5) Sound and appearance ... Both subjective so choose what calls out to you ... personally I like the all blacked out ECS kit as its matches the engine bay better IMHO but you can also get this with a Procharger kit options (not a fan of chrome/polished look).
If you have any other questions regarding the ECS kit I'm sure Doug would be happy to help you with them.

The ProCharger uses its own dedicated 8 rib pulley. It's a bit of a task to get in, but only about 10 minutes. I can only speak about the install of the ProCharger kit, since that's what I have. It took me right around 8 hrs to install start to finish. If I had followed the instructions to the tee, it might have been a bit less. I didn't drain the coolant completely, so it got a bit messy and I had to do some goofy things. It was harder to do the passenger side plugs then anything with the install of the blower. I must have fat hands, it took me an hour and a half just to do that today.

I'm sure both kits will perform similar on a stock/slightly modified car with base boost numbers. The ECS will not have to worry about belt slip when you get a bit crazier with the boost, but an 8 rib setup should hold more then even a D1 will make.

It really comes down to which can you get at a better deal.

Does ESC kit use straight cut or helical gears?

Straight cut isn't an option yet.

The 8 rib drive on the 6th gen Camaro, is the same one that....

- Holds the record for fastest 6th Gen camaro PERIOD.
- Holds the record for fastest C7 Stingray vette PERIOD.
- Holds the record for the fastest C7 Z06 vette PERIOD.

No fancy stuff, just the same 8 rib stuff that comes in every kit.
Which says a LOT!

Other nice things, is that we don't move any cooling stuff.
We have a killer intercooler option.
And the silicon hose discharge tube is wicked for many reasons.
- doesn't transfer heat into it, like steel by the radiator.
- vibration and rattle free
- easy to install due to flexibility
- less clamps to fail (only two)
- OEM grade 5 ply hose for unmatched durability.
- Consistent and stable MAF readings

And we got a killer price point.

I do not think you will be disappointed in either direction, but just like our other kits, I firmly believe we have a higher quality of parts then our competitors. Simple physics, we include more for the same or better price.

I purchased the ESC and will be installing hopefully in the next few weeks. I have hptuners so they provided me there latest tune to copy/compare too. I have only unboxed so far. The reason I chose there's over procharger was price and I feel there base kit is what procharger sells as the stage 2 kit. STAY TUNED!

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to BOOST!
You will love it!!!!

Id have to say the pricing should have been pretttttty close.
Actually most people have stated we were equal if not lower.

Full retail on STG is $5943.
But I have never ever seen anyone pay full retail.

Since the "minimum advertised price" is $5725
I wouldn't know what a selling or "street price" really is.
Though I would guess less than that.

I have personally made 744 rwhp on a P1SC1 STG2 kit, with room to go yet!
And thats the same intercooler that holds the 2016 Camaro record at 9.003

Again, stoked you are in the "Boost club"
Time to smoke some tires!
