Brake fluid on caliper?

After getting home from an HPDE track day, I noticed this fluid on the lower part of my driver's side front caliper.

It is very sticky, so part of me wants to say it's more of a 'grease' but then it really seems like it was coming from possibly one of the caliper pistons. Notice it is also on the bottom edge of the brake pad. Brake fluid level is ok, but this concerned me a little -

Anyone else with this issue? And word is, GM put dot3 fluid in these cars, has anyone switched to Dot 4/5?

Yes, switched before I went to the track. I run Castrol SRF, which is DOT 4 as i recall and the best stopping fluid one can buy. Down side - its pricey brake fluid and you need flush once a year instead of every other year.

Yes, did full fluid swap before my first event... replaced with Castrol SRF. Motul RBF 600 should provide enough temp resistance for 99% of 1LE track drivers thought.

I ran RBF 600 in my RS4, worked real well. I did feel the Camaro's brakes get a little spongy, so I'll be switching it out soon.

Hard to say without being there but that doesn't look like brake fluid to me. Also, I've never known brake fluid to be sticky.

Maybe grease from the sliders that the brake pads ride on?

These are not sliding calipers. I agree though- it looks like grease. I had grease like this on my front fender right behind the front wheels after my weekend @ Barber

It's probably the anti-noise grease from the pads' backing plates and shims area. First time the brakes get hot this stuff comes out. It should go away once the excess is expelled.

Agreed, this looks like it could be anti-seize

I meant the contact points for the channels the brake pad taps run on.

But if there is anti-rattling compound back there or anti-seize, that would explain it. I'll take a look at it tomorrow.

Exactly what I was going to say. Hopefully the mess can be cleaned off the caliper without removing the paint.

It's kind of dumb that they put that much on there, I'm now worried that this crap might have contaminated the pads as it melted and possibly got onto the pad or rotor surface..
