Kooks LT Headers with Borla Mid Pipes (60610)?

Has anyone installed Kooks LT Headers with the Borla Mid Pipes (60610)? Looking at the Kooks & Borla drawings it looks very close to working, but not positive.

I have the 60610 mid pipes and the 11924 S Type on my car now and want to add Kooks 1 7/8" catted headers.

It looks close. You likely will have to cut down the front pipes of the Borla, but I don't see any big deals.

That's what I thought at first but I understand that the high flow cat that Kooks gives you does not sleeve over the stock exhaust it's a butt joint so just butts up against the stock pipe and is the stock pipe diameter (2.75").

The Borla 60610 is a lap joint so the end of it is expanded and slides over the stock pipe so it should in theory slide over top of the cat that Kooks gives you but not sure by how much (it looks close) so not sure if there will be enough of the cat for the Borla to slide over and bite onto if that makes sense.

Borla has you cut 4" behind the secondary car then the lap joint slides over it (I'd guess the expanded lap joint is 3" long). Kooks has you cut 2" after the secondary cat so there's a 2 inch gap, if the lap joint is 3" long it will only overlap the Kook's cat by 1", not sure if that is enough to clamp down... I'd need about 1 more inch from the Kooks system.

I've already asked Kooks and they didn't give me an answer, they just sent me their install guide and left it up to me to figure out. I've also asked them if they could give me a cat that is just 1-2" longer because then I could shave it down to whatever is needed, but haven't heard back from them. This is the only thing holding me back from making the purchase.

Excuse the crappy drawing I did very quickly, but I realized what I just said may be easier to follow with a diagram.

This discussion came up in a different thread but I figured I'd copy it here so anyone with this configuration that is trying to go headers like me could read see this:

I ask because I just wanted to make sure the pipe was not in a different position or something. It looks like I just have to make a clean cut and slip the Kooks right on.
Essentially yes, with the 60609, your system runs up further then mine (into the secondary cat) and it's the same diameter than stock so you'll be fine, you'll just make the cut like you would with stock.

From talking to Tim at EFI who has the catted Kooks on his car the cat has a 3" connection to the header and stock 2.75" connection to the stock exhaust. It does not sleeve over it just buts up to the stock exhaust and you put a band clamp (for a but joint) over it. I can't do that because where where that clamp would go, I have the expanded part of the 60610 so cutting that down won't work because that expanded section is 3-4" long and if I cut all of that off it will be too short. I thought that maybe I could use that sleeved section of the 60610 and just slide to over the cat and use the Borla clamp and not the one Kooks gives you but there's only 1" of cat to bite onto so it wouldn't seal. I've talked to Borla to see what I can do but so far nothing. Borla only makes a non catted version which I don't want. Maybe one option is I try to get just the forward section of the 60609 and just make a cut in that.

seems easy enough if you have a welder

Yeah, I don't want to cut/modify/weld the 60610 or the secondary cat like that so that I can remove everything and revert to stock when I sell the car later on down the road. There's not a huge car scene in my area so I'm guessing I won't get what I want for my car with mods on it so I'll be better off reverting to stock and selling all aftermarket parts.

I know they make band clamps for lap joints which is essentially what this joint would be, but since there is not enough overlap between the cat and the 60610 I don't think it will seal. There are also slits in the side of the expanded section of the 60610 that would be exposed since the cat does not go back far enough.

yeah I wouldn't try to use the above clamp as a perm solution. You could have someone custom weld it but then that would chop up your 60610 pipes. Fortunately, I have a spare set of 60609 front pipes due to Manufacturing issue and I can chop these up so that I keep everything completely bolt on/off.

I would just have it welded also, when you revert back to stock have it welded back up. Guys down here only charge 20 bucks for that. Im sure if the buyer asked if if was ever modded you would not lie and say no. If they ask say yes but it was reverted back to stock. If they dont ask then dont say anything.

It's starting to sound like a weld will be my only option, sucks but oh well. I'm guessing I'll get charged closer to $100 up in this area.

The Borla pipes are stainless steel so you need to find an appropriate welder to do the work.
