Would it be possible to swap an LT4 engine with your LT1?
I want a ZL1 but I don't want to get bent over on my trade in of my 2SS. Would it be possible to just buy an LT4 and have it put into my 2SS?

You are much better off forging your lt1 and adding a lt4 blower, and doing a more aggressive cam, and try to find a set of lt4 heads. Either way your warranty is history but this is cheaper than swapping blocks. It is what I did (finishing up). Keep in mind the Zl1 has much better axles and drive shaft as well (aftermarket to me is better).

I forget his name but someone here did it and found the two engines are actually more different than you would think. The process took months and was more more involved than he anticipated. I remember reading the build. In the end he just sold the ss and bought the ZL1 for the ids anyway lol. Just go with a built lt1 or buy a zl1 you'll save yourself the head ache.

I'm the guy. If you're serious, I'd be happy to discuss the experience with you.
As with anything, there are pros and cons. The SS with the LT4 turned out great and in some ways better than a ZL1. I just wanted some of the bells and whistles of the ZL1, eLSD, factory line-lock, etc. and I didn't have the garage space to keep both cars. With that said, buying the ZL1 is probably a better way to go for most people, but it depends on your goals more than anything. |
