Ducktail spoiler?
I'm about to pull the trigger on either a ZL1 or a 1LE..
Really 50-50 right now. I love the ZL1 looks, but one thing I'd love to change is that rear wing/spoiler. Does anyone know if that can be removed, and replaced with some sort of ducktail spoiler? Or has anyone done anything custom so far with their 'rear end'? |

Some aftermarket blades will cover all the holes, the gm blade does not, leaves one hole exposed.

I would like to see a GM ZL1 no cost option for a different rear spoiler similar to the 1LE that would cover that hole. Optional wheel package similar to 1LE would be preferred as well (although the standards are growing on me). Only other item a ZL1 needs is me in the drivers seat to really enhance the look

Given all of the aero work that they supposedly did on the new ZL!, changing spoiler would probably hurt things. No issue if you never get much over highway speeds. Could be a big issue if you plan to track it.

Would be interesting to know. I would think though with how similar the 1LE is that the blade style spoiler wouldn't make a big difference.

The front end of the ZL1 is completely different than the 1LE. The aerodynamics of the front end work together with the other parts of the car like the side skirts and rear spoiler to reduce drag and increase downforce. You'd be surprised at how much difference something like a spoiler will do. There's a reason the ZL1 has its specific spoiler and not the 1LE or the same one as the SS (it's wider and longer than the SS).

For daily driving purposes which is what 80% of ZL1 owners will do then changing out the rear spoiler will have zero affect on the cars handling and performance. Even still for the remaining 20% that might track their ZL1 I would say only 5% of them might push the car to the point of where aero dynamics really come into play.
Also remember, while the ZL1 does have more power than the 1LE optioned SS, the 1LE SS is almost as quick around the same tracks as the 1LE and really only suffers in the straight line performance areas. And it does all of that with a small edge spoiler... |

Will the GT4.R spoiler become available, do you think?

However, when I was considering getting a 1LE at first, I thought the 1LE spoiler was HIDEOUS and probably would have changed it for street driving and put the factory one back on for the track. |

It's personal choice, just good that people know the implications.

As my car is a DD, I'll mod it for looks, I don't give a damn about drag/downforce. When I raced SCCA, it was all about aero mods on my 944T....
It all depends on your intended use....... |
