How to Remove Intake Manifold
I'm in the process of removing the intake manifold and tb from my 6.2 to have sent out to be ported. Can anyone please let me know how to do this and any links to possible parts that would need to be replaced in the removal process. I have read through the forums and searched google but cannot find any videos or descriptions of the process. I did see that amazon might carry replacement plastic parts but I don't know what parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have taken my intake manifold off and on 4-5 times now. It is not that hard at all.
Couple things: With the OEM I.M. if you break something you need a whole new manifold or JB weld. The ports and connectors on the OEM look screwed on but they are not. They are all fused on. Also I would not recommend exposing your heads for that long. (aka sending it off) without a replacement I.M., as a place holder, or some serious engine cover. The heads funnel right onto the valve and just closing your hood opens up the possibility of animals or dirt getting in and causing a valve to not seal or worse stick. I would recommend going to the hardware store and buying some sand paper (320,240,180,100,60 grits) and doing it yourself. Start rough and end smooth. (gigidy) The I.M. is literally two sensors, 4 bolts for the throttle body, and 10 bolts for the I.M. and off it comes all with a 10mm socket. The hardest part is getting the brake booster line to release on the rear of the I.M.. Its in a hard to reach spot and requires you to get a flat head screw driver in there to hold the slip collar down while pulling back on the tube. Take off all the bolts then slide the I.M. forward until you can reach the booster line. DO NOT PULL ON IT TO HARD! EZPZ: total time to take off 1-2 hours if you go slow. |

I will just assume you are sending your IM/TB to me for porting so I will help you out.
The swap is really easy actually. I can do it in about 15 minutes now. Pop your Camaro covers Pop your wiring harness from the gray cover before you un bolt it Remove the gray cover Leave the black cover under the gray cover for now (remove it before you ship) Leave your brake booster hose connected at the rear of the manifold and disconnect it under the A/C line (remove it after you have the IM out) You can leave the TB connected at first, just get the connector off Leave the air box in place and just remove the elbow Disconnect the EVAP solenoid Loosen all of the IM bolts and hold them up with the rubber bands Take the TB up and to the right and the IM will slide right out Separate the IM/TB wrap up tight and ship That's about it.

I'm assuming that this IM takes a good torque wrench and specific torque pattern when re-installing. If it does, that would be great info to know.

75 pounds over several passes. Here's the info. Different looking mani same procedure. Honestly the amount of torque is so low you can feel it by hand when the intake contacts the heads. I do not even use my torque wrench anymore I just feel it. (do not hate)

Thanks for all the great info. Yes Pray I will be sending it to you to have done. I plan on taking it off next weekend. Do I need to order any new gaskets or bolts to reinstall? Thanks Whitemaro6 for the torque sequence.

75 inch pounds sounds about right. They didn't seem very tight at all.
Warning to all who may not know the difference. It's not 75 ft lbs. that would break the bolts and or crack the manifold. It's more like 6-7 ft lbs. I'd suggest a 1/4 inch drive inch lb specific torque wrench if one wants to do it just right. I'd like to know the torque specs for the stock manifold it's probably similar to the msd above. Tighten in a criss cross pattern. Then re torque them all one more time to be safe. Bolts will be fine. Gaskets are rubber and should be ok especially on a newer car. It's one of the easiest intakes to remove I've ever done. |

Nope no new bolts or gaskets just hold on to the ones that come off the OEM and put them back on when done

I think this part is important enough to be large
75 inch pounds max NOT foot pounds! This is a piece of plastic |
