Of course you can sue them... Small claims court.. Easy to win if you have pictures of the jerk... Here is what I use for jerks..

My car had the front fender replaced. Canadian pricing mind you. $398 fender. $404 hash mark. $1400 Paint & Labor. Through insurance.
Most likley a good $1000 if you shopped around and paid cash. Claims are always done at top dollar with crap done you don't need.

I second the small claims action. No lawyers allowed; you tell your side, they say their's and the judge decides...

I ever tell you about the time some teenage kids were messing around my car didn't know I was the owner and had a old ford truck and hit the door off my car? I walked up and booted there whole fender in I'm 260 5,8 20 inch calves felt great paying for the damage myself after that lol

Look on there faces priceless not one peep out of them the silence said it all!

That's a rough spot is that the front fender or back fender the blending in is the problem I did the front fender on my truck last year $900 painted and new fender from GM he was a friend that has a shop.

I was quoted from $1800 to $2200 from other places because they wanted to paint half the door also it is just my work truck so I said screw it and just did the fender it's not perfect because I didn't go all out but it's 90% I wouldn't except anything but 110% on the Camaro though! There's a ideal though my trucks a 07 Chevy silveraldo new style!

My rear fender was damage about the same spot were yours was. It cost me $1100 to repair it. That was the cheapest I could get it from a good shop. They painted the whole side of the car. There was no way I would want to paint part of it and blend it in. I was also quoted for $1500 from another shop. That would do the same work. Just depends on where you go. Our camaro are nice cars so I wouldn't mind paying a premium price to make it perfect. Good luck!

I'll now walk 1000 feet to park my car away from everyone else, because I've had crap like that happen to every car I've ever owned that I was willing to park in a lot next to other cars. People are just idiots.

Another reason to park as far away as possible: I once was accused of hitting someone's car in a parking lot. I was parked ten spaces away, some guy in a Wrangler hit a car and ran, and when the owner came out, someone told them a Jeep had hit them. They called the cops and tried to hang it on me because I was the nearest Jeep!

As I said, people are just idiots.

1) Park as far away from other cars as possible, even it it means parking in another lot. Get used to walking. Even where I work, which is full of supposed mature professionals, people get door dinged and even hit and runned all the time. It is infuriating. I park as far away from the building as possible.
2) If you live in an area where that is not possible, buy a beater and drive it to crowded places. There are certain places I simply won't park a nice car, and for those places I have a beater.
3) If you park in a lot that has shopping carts, make sure you park as far away from the cart corrals as you can, and UPHILL of them if at all possible. I have personally witnessed people just shoving carts in the general direction of a cart corral and turn and walk away. The cart veers and hits a car, and they don't give two craps about it.

Definitely not worth bringing lawyers in for anything less than 10k, their fees will eat you and not get fully reimbursed in the verdict.

Your video will need to clearly show identifiable information of the responsible party -- e.g. a clear shot of the license plate. File a police report for the damage and failure to leave information. Get the repairs down out of pocket (do not use insurance unless you want to wait for your insurance company to recollect via useless letters). File a suit against the owner of the vehicle. Bring your police report, identifying evidence (video) and copies of the repair bills (it also helps to bring other estimates to show you went with the cheapest or middle option). Request reimbursement for repairs, court costs, plus time & trouble (1-2 days of your current salary).

As long as you are telling the truth and don't embellish your recounting of events, the judge is quite likely to give you 100% award against the defendant. This doesn't mean you'll immediately get paid, but the judgement gives you the ability to file lien against their property if they do not repay within your states definition of a timely manner. A lien makes it difficult for them to move on any financing of real estate without first repaying and clearing the lien.

I've had this happen at lunch and watched it happen. I confronted them when they tried to leave without notice. They refused to produce insurance information, so I recorded them making a statement on video admitting to the damage, not having insurance information on that date and captured their license plate after they also refused to show their drivers license.

The judge not only made my damage whole, he also damaged proof of coverage from the defendant after it showed in his DMV report that his license was suspended on the date of the event. His tag & license were seized and an additional fine levied, which by order could not be paid until he made repayment. I was lucky that guy set himself up for so much failure.

Last time I was hit, in rush hour traffic, it was a different story. Rear of the car was crunched, driver admitted to dozing off at the wheel to the first officer on scene, had no insurance, was currently suspended for no insurance and they just cited him and released him while EMT's were checking my neck and head for concussion symptoms. He actually drove off before the scene was cleared. I was more shocked by that happening. Damage was significant enough that insurance had to be used and it has been over a year without update on the collection efforts. Pisses me off every time I log into USAA and see the claim notice still at the top of the page.
