I am really look forward to see how the new Michelins are, I'm sure they will be a better tire for daily street driving with the occasional mountain carving trip but I still think the stock GYs will be the better pure performance tire. And the GYs are about $300 cheaper for a set! nonetheless I'm sure they will be awesome tires!

Still debating on if I'll run 295/30 or 285/30 PS4S's as my daily driver setup. Interesting to see these tires in comparison to the GY's and Sport Cup 2's

Pilot Sport 4 S

Eagle Supercar 3

Pilot Sport Cup 2

They are a good middle ground between the GYs and the Cup 2s as far as price goes but like I said I think the GYs will be the better performance tires. That said the PS4S should have better cold/wet performance and longevity than the GYs. And of course the CUP2s are the undisputed track king right now but good lord over $2000 for tires that will last less that 20k miles is just not in the books for me.

I tend to agree. Seems that the PS4S tires are an incremental improvement on the already great PSS. They have marginally better grip (I was reading a track-tested review), and marginally better tread life...

In terms of performance ability, I guess we haven't seen them put in real use, yet. But the Pilot Super Sport that they replace were great up until 8/10s on the track. If you heat them up too much, in repeated laps/sessions, they get greasy.

So...in my opinion:

1) PS4S are probably going to be better suited to street use, with superior tread life.

2) GY Supercar G:3 tires will probably be slightly less enjoyable on the street than the PS4S. They need at least a little heat to get real fun. But they will be better during a track day. They allow a relatively heavy car like the Camaro ZL1 perform like a Z06 with sticky track tires ()...and they are cheaper...but since they come from the factory with less tread depth - they won't last nearly as long as a PS4S.

3) Sport Cup...track only....track only...track only. You'll be lucky to see 6000 miles, IF that...And it almost seems like they might not offer performance benefit worth the price vs the G:3s....I'm eager to watch how that plays out...

Either way, it's always good to have options!

My Pilot Super Sports were a nice improvement over the Pirrellis. As Mr. Wyndam noted, they MPSS got greasy on the track when I pushed them hard. On the autocross they helped me pick up some time. They now have about 15,000 miles on them, will probably go another 5,000 miles left before they hit the wear bar. But the grip is gone, it unsafe to go fast around corners now, so I will be replacing them before their fully worn out. I would rather get something with more grip like the Goodyear's that don't last as long, as opposed to the long life/less grip Michelins.

So much money for those things. Have you guys looked at Nitto NT555 Gen 2s?

Once the stock tires wear out. I plan on Nitto NT555 Gen 2s (and a set of Z28 replicas) for street driving because they're $1000 a set in OEM sizes and have 320 TW... I don't need the ultimate in track performance or even the Supercar 3s for my daily commute.

I'll then put the PSC2s on the stock 1LE wheels and keep them for track days only.

Might pick up a set of 18s and DRs depending on how much i decide to drag race.

I bought another set of stock 1LE rims and MPSS's a few weeks ago. Per your question, I would run 295's on the front for some extra rim guard protection. The 285 MPSS has only 1mm of rim guard, the 305's have around 8mm. So, the MPSS 305's are better for that respect than the GY G3's, but, the front 285's are slightly less for the MPSS.

I say this assuming the MP4S's are the same dimensions as the MPSS's in the respective sizes. Time will tell. I knew these eventually were coming, but, I did not want to wait and have had multiple cars with the MPSS's. Excellent, not perfect, street tire for our typical DFW weather.

You sure 295 will fit up front?

My tire/wheel guy is not so certain....

Not sure, plus, there can be a lot of variation between brands / sizes. I still have not had my car up on my lift to look clearances over better. After I do its inaugural auto cross tomorrow, I am planning to.

I would think, at worst case, a small spacer pushing the wheel / tire outboard would help, too, if needed.

Isn't it the edge of the spring perch that causes the inside clearance issue in front? Couldn't that be trimmed a few mm?
