"Jumpy" transmission V6 Auto 8speed

Hey all I'm having this issue where my car is extremely "jumpy". The weather is cold, I let the car warm up for about 2-3 minutes then the first time I gun the acceleration the car jerks really bad in what I think is the shift between gear 2 and 3, when I say bad, I mean head flying forward then back bad. It only does it the first time I really put my foot to the floor then won't do it at all after that. Does anybody else have this happening on their v6? Is it normal after a cold start? I've always kinda had this problem even when it wasn't cold there was this issue i feel like.

I have the same thing happening to me on a fairly regular basis. Even after sitting there until the engine revs down a bit; it still does it once I start driving.

Does the same thing for me. I have noticed it more lately since I have been letting mine warmup less than I usually do. If my car is still cold, it will have this "jerky" feel for the first 1/4 mile, maybe less.

Mine does it as well, very first shift only.

Currently dealing with the V4 vibration...

Took it into the dealership for the recall to reprogram and the jumpiness is completely gone, it is seriously night and day difference after the update. transmission in auto and manual mode is completely smooth now.

My V6 1LT A8 does exactly the same thing. It is kind of embarrassing when you go to leave work at the end of the day and the car lurches and jerks on its own. People look at you like whats wrong with you. As soon as I drive a little it stops. I wonder how many trips I will need to make to the dealer to get this fixed.

Doug, What did you tell them at the dealership? and what was their response? I am taking mine in soon for a scheduled maintenance and don't want to get the "normal" lecture. It is very embarrassing, especially because I have people asking to go for a ride all the time.

Details on your interaction with the dealer would be helpful.

Thanks!

Has anyone made any progress on this issue? I back into a parking spot at work everyday and when I go to leave is when it happens. I have found that if I put in in reverse for a few seconds before shifting to drive, it seems to not happen or it is greatly reduced.

SERVICE BULLETIN #???

Is there a service bulletin for this issue? Doug, do you remember if they had a # for the service or what they reprogrammed? Mine has gotten way, way worse lately with the wonderful addition of an extremely harsh (jerky) shift from 4-5. Like as if the transmission locked up for a second. Enough to jerk my head off the headrest.

Downshifts are still a bit jerky and not smooth at all. My 2001 bmw 325 shifted more smoothly than this car right now. This is literally the only issue I have with my car but it is a big one. Quite honestly, it is embarrassing when I take people for rides and the transmission jumps from 1-2 and 4-5. It feels like the car is broken and cheaply made. My co-worker (who drives a CR-v) actually commented on how harsh the shifts were and how bumpy the downshifts were. I've reached my limit dealing with this.

I just had my torque converter replaced and it is still pretty jerky on the 3-4 and 4-5 shift. Downshifts are also rough. Im getting real frustrated with this transmission and am about to call up a local tuner to retune the transmission.

I have a similar problem with my V8 SS. I back into my driveway and when I go to drive later, going from Park to Drive to even reverse is very jerky. When I drive, the car seems to not want to change from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd without a large delay and it looks as though I cant drive my damn car when your sitting at a stop sign and it STILL hasn't changed down and you go to drive away and it rings itself out in 1st then chunks into gear. It's embarrassing. I took it into the dealer and of course they cant duplicate it and look at me as though I'm some kind of moron 'woman' and don't know what I am talking about.

The A8 is a known product failure.

You're obviously a smart woman - you bought a Camaro SS!

Too many threads on A8 problems to list, but here is the link to one, and a TSB on the transmission.

If the service writer doesn't take you seriously, meet the service manager and fill him in.

Take a service rep for a ride to prove the issue and avoid more "unable to duplicate" issues.

It truly is embarrassing... I got blown off by my dealership today so I will call again tomorrow. They were extremely knowledgeable with the electric steering issue I had prior so I have high hopes that they will be able to fix this issue. The park to drive and vice versa is livable but the other problems such as the jerky, uneven, laggy, and clunky shifts are simply unacceptable. Best case, they have to "re-learn" the TCM... worst case, they have to replace the transmission. Fingers crossed for the former. I have just been dealing with it so far and learning how to drive to avoid these things but I have had enough. This is a brand new car. It should not have huge issues like this. Minor issues I can understand.
