Dealer tried to sell a car at a higher price

I almost bought a 2017 2ss Camaro on Saturday.

On Friday the price on there website showed $42xxx. I got there on Saturday and test drove it and got ready to deal when they told me the price was $44xxx. I said the website showed $42xxx. They then pull up the website and show me it is now $44xxx. My wife and I ended up walking out. They didn't even want to negotiate. There were 1ss I was looking at and the price was up on those cars too.

On Sunday I look at the website and the price is back down to the $42xxx price again. The 1ss prices are all down too.

It appears they jack the prices up on all the car just because it's Saturday and they know that's when most people come to buy cars.

What a scam.

You can always pull up the direct link of the car on google and show the cached copy. The cached copy will more than likely reflect the price as of a few days prior...

Always print copies of such and take it to the dealership with you. Also take copies of KBB, NADA, and whatever you can showing your trade value.
They may cloose to not honor it but it will eliminate their talking points.

It takes all of 2 seconds to change the text on a website before printing the page out, though. This is barely better than simply asking them to take your word for it. As somebody else mentioned, the Google cache is a little more hard evidence. Unless you work for Google, there's no real way to fake that.

Did they advertise the prices as MSRP? Or did they state it was a "XYZ Dealer Price" or something?

It was the price after the national $1000 rebate.

When I bought mine in May the MSRP was $49+ but it got my interest when it was advertised online at $42.3. After making up my mind I decided to chat with the internet sales rep with the intent of verifying the one I was interested in was on the lot and in doing so asked for her best price. I printed off the net price and while driving to the dealer she hit me up and offered me $45.5. When I started negotiating with the local sales rep I mentioned I had talked to the online sales rep and quoted her price which he noted was pretty good. Then I hit him with their advertised online price which he admitted that was even better.

Similar thing happened to me at a Ford dealer. The Mustang was listed online as a NEW 2016 leftover for $36k. I looked at the car, did a test drive, now it's magically $42k. I called them out on BS. Said they would do me a favor a honor the $36k and claimed it was a mistake of the "internet people". They also said warranty was counting since September (I visited in November). The final insult was offering $7,500 under the book value for my trade-in with low miles and near perfect condition.

An this is why I now have a Camaro.

This is why all my vehicles the last 15 years are dodge and chevy. I've walked off more ford lots than I can count.

They lowballed your trade to get you off the lot. Simple.

Drove out of a dealership in a brand new Silverado that was advertised for crazy cheap.

Took in 4 internet ads printed up from 4 different sources for the truck.

Sales manager signed off on the "mistake".

BS over.

Just use Cars dot com and find the car you want, at the price u want and go for a road trip. Or have them bring it in for u. I'm seeing 2ss's around okla city for around 5k under msrp. 46k for 41k.

But yeah, i would change dealerships. You have to have a good relationship with them IMO. I went to the same dealership I bought my Sti at, they also sell Camaro. They seamed unwilling to budge on the price. So i drove 10 miles south, and found a dealer that would and bought the car the same day. Ironically, the car the sold me was at the dealership I left. They had them drive it down.
