Hi all,
I'm new to the forum, planning on getting a 1LE. I live in California but I'm getting one from out of state. Some dealers I reached earlier told me though all camaro's are 50 state emission certified, some do not meet the stricter emissions requirements (CARB). So I'm wondering how can I or the dealer be sure the vehicle can be registered in California? Does anyone run into similar issue before? Best regards, |

Pretty much all new cars are 50-state emission legal. And yes, the 1LE is one of them.

Thanks for replying. Does that means no matter where I bought the car, It is gaurenteed it can be registered in California? Then why there's a couple dealers told me otherwise. I see you are also in California, where did you buy your 1LE? You didn't have any trouble register it? Thanks! |

I know that my window sticker, even though I bought it in Washington, said that it met CA emission requirements. When building the vehicle I beleive it has to have some form of emission statement and it has to be displayed on the window sticker.
FE9 Emissions, Federal requirements YF5 Emissions, California state requirements NE1 Emissions, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington state requirements NB8 Emissions override, California (allows a dealer in states that require California emissions - California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island or Washington - to order Federal emissions for a vehicle that will be registered in a state that has Federal emission requirements). Do not use for vehicles that will be registered in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island or Washington. 1 - Requires (FE9) Federal emissions requirements. Not available in Maine or Vermont. NB9 Emissions override, state-specific (for dealers ordering vehicles in (YF5) or (NE1) emission states - California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington) 1 - Allows a California dealer (YF5 emissions) to order (NE1) emissions with (NB9) emissions override code for registration in (NE1) states; or, a Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington dealer (NE1 emissions) to order (YF5) emissions with (NB9) emissions override code for registration in California. NC7 Emissions override, Federal (for vehicles ordered by dealers in Federal emission states with (YF5) or (NE1) emissions - Not required for vehicles being shipped to California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont or Washington) 1 - Requires (YF5) California state emissions requirements or Vermont or Washington state emissions requirements.(NE1) Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island,

I bought My Z/28 from out of state and had the verify the same thing. As been said, all are 50 state legal. Mine is a "Federal" car but it met the requirements for CA. There was a site I found that outlined what needed to be said on the sticker. I don't have that handy, but google will help you.
The reason for my reply is this: My car was a pain in the ass to register. I had to get it to pass smog, first. All parameters had to trigger a PASS. It took just over 700 miles of driving over the course of a few weeks. I went to the smog shop 3 times, trying to get them to give it a green light to no avail.... Finally after 700 miles, we were good. DMV was fun. I went in and paid all of the taxes, registration and had the smog certificate. Did not get completed because I was missing a certain piece of paper from GM about the car. Had to make another appointment and do it again. You know how fun the DMV is. Moral of the story, these cars are not rare, find one locally. It's so much more convenient to have everything right the day you buy the car. Enjoy your new purchase !

Thank you so much, I asked for a picture of the window sticker, and I didn't find any emission statement saying it can be sold in California. But I will ask for the emission code from the dealer to confirm. |

Sean and I, along with numerous other people, bought our cars from Becky@RodgersChevrolet. Yes, it takes a while for the systems to be ready to pass smog. Mine took 509 miles. Sean's took over 600. Basically, drive the thing! I started a thread a few weeks back, and someone posted some useful information to help get the car to ready status quicker. After I followed that and went 509 miles, mine was ready.

Thanks for replying. Is that possible you could send me a link of the site which has outline of what needed to be said on the sticker or let me know which keywords i need to search? I tried google it and all the results on the first few pages will lead me to the cal dmv page, which is fun to read but not very useful. Right now all 1LE I can find in california are selling at their MSRP's while in other states, there are at least $3k discount. Not sure why. Thanks again. |

I bought my last 1LE from Michigan. It took over 600 miles before it would pass smog, then did registration, taxes, etc at DMV but didn't have the car with me. They have to verify the VIN number, so made another appt to take the car back to DMV for that. Then DMV said some docs where missing, I went back again and show them all paperwork, then it was good. As stated above, buy local or just order one from any California dealer, then GM will ship to a local dealer and just pay for pre-delivery inspection and no smog or DMV worries.

I have to say the process through Becky @ Rodgers Chevy was fine with no issues other than SMOG which I already knew about. She does it a lot and knew exactly what paperwork was needed, I knew I needed a VIN check, and I knew I needed to drive the car through quite a few drive cycles to get it ready for smog. I've spent a total of 15 minutes inside a DMV thus far. My advice would be to either wait for a local car (still the best option) or go through Becky.
