New to forum. Thinking about purchasing a Camaro SS.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I've been lurking for quite some time and decided it was finally time to join.

I'm thinking about purchasing a Camaro SS. I currently own a 2016 Competition Orange Mustang GT with 3K . It's a really nice car and I've had zero problems with it.

On a whim, I went to a local Chevy dealership and test drove a CPO 2016 Camaro SS 2SS. I was pretty much blown away. I've been debating if I should pull the trigger and get the Camaro. What concerns me is the problems a lot of members have cited. Specifically concerning are the LSD issues and torque converter shake in the auto cars.

It's kind of a tough call for me as the Mustang has a few bolt ons, pulls hard and runs flawlessly. On the other hand, the Camaro is a pretty amazing machine. I love the sunroof and HUD options as well as the different mode settings. Forgot to mention, my GT is a base car, not premium package.

I don't want to trade in a car that looks and runs good for one that I'm going to have problems with. While I realize there's no way to no for sure if it's going to be problematic, just want to arm myself with as much info as possible...

So I guess, just looking for some advice and feedback. Thanks in advance!

The LSD issue is solved by changing the fluid (which is a wise idea anyway after the initial break-in). So it doesn't seem to be anything major. Not sure about the torque converter issue, I have the auto, and it has been flawless for me so far (including one HPDE).

Since you already have a '16 Mustang, you could always wait a bit longer for GM to get all the bugs worked out. I usually don't buy in the first year of a major update to a car for this very reason. But my personal situation made the 2016 the year to buy for me. So far, no issues whatsoever, except the police won't let me drive like I want to.

I did test drive the GT before my purchase, and while there was a ton to like about the car, the SS just blew me away with how well the car handles. That and available options like dual mode exhaust and magnetic ride control are some of the main the reasons for me to choose the SS.

I came from multiple Stangs including a modded 14 5.0.. One test drive in the SS and it pretty much did it with all that torque, power everywhere.

Can't speak for the auto but had mine for 9+ month and not one single issue. Then again, mine is an M6. I know a lot of the auto owners have not had any problems either and just a few with torque converter issues.

I also was mainly a mustang guy. And loved to mod them, easy to do back in the day. Wasn't interested in the Gen5 Camaro, but when they switched to the Alpha platform & I read all the reviews/comparisons, I had to test drive one. And compare it directly with the mustang GTPP. No comparison in my mind, Chevy really stepped up their game with this one. 7 months with mine & zero issues so far. Love the torque curve of the LT1! Power everywhere!

But I wouldn't want to take the hit on depreciation of a basically new mustang to switch over even if the Camaro is a better vehicle. But that's just me...

I prefer the Camaro to the mustang but I don't think I would lose money on a 2016 to get into one. Why didn't you shop around before buying your GT?

It doesn't make sense to trade a 1 year old car unless it is something like a Fiat 500 which is making you crazy and you just got a big bonus. Just enjoy your stang.

The LSD issue is not that nig of a deal. Slight rubbing noise when cold for the first 2 or 3 turns. I have it and goes away quick, only happens during a couple of months here in NC for me...I have had a few minor issues and mine was built on the 3rd day of production for the 6th gens back in October of 2015, very early produced car.

Well you could be in the minuscule % here that have no problems with their SS (I was not one of them).

But realistically you'll take a bath on your GT, and end up with a marginally faster and funner Camaro with lots of annoying issues. Would I do it if I were you? Nope.

Thanks to all that responded.

And yes, it would definitely be a loss to trade in the Mustang. I was just so blown away with how different (in a good way) the Camaro was comparatively.

I was kind of a Mustang guy so didn't really consider the Camaro at my time of purchase which, in retrospect, was a total mistake. Oh well, still not really sure! I guess I just have to decide if a want to take a loss....

Do you write for Yahoo?
Sworn, how much of a hit would you take trading in the Mustang, if any? Would it be worth it to you to do so?

I am actually debating on a Camaro 2ss vs a 16 Mustang GT Premium with the California Package ...Just can't find a 2ss in white at my price range which is 32k or under unfort...

Never had a Mustang so would be my 1st...Just doing a lot of thinking before I jump on it tho...Hoping a Camaro 2ss comes out of nowhere in my price range..
