long term build quality

So I just registered on the site to provide some information that may be valuable. I'm currently in florida and I rented a '16 1ss for my stay. Before I buy a car I always like to know how it will hold up after some mileage. Being as that I'm probably driving probably one of the most used and abused 6th gen camaro's in existance, I'd figure I'd report my findings.

Life of this camaro-
26k miles
-Badly cracked front rim I shouldn't be driving on
-steering off center
-pulls to the left
-need two hands on the wheel to drive straight at 60mph
-grinding noise during turns especially bad when cold, sounds like differential
-rough idle, probably from carbon buildup

Despite all that, the car still drives like a block of granite on wheels. The interior, suspension, and chassis all feel as tight as a brand new car. There are no rattles of any sort, no creaking of suspension or brakes. I am so impressed by how tight this car is for how used it is.

I will definitely be buying one soon.

Sounds like somebody smacked into a curb and damaged the Rim, possibly some suspension stuff and at minimum threw the alignment off. Whatever rental company has a car like that knows it is likely to get abused. I rented a RT challenger once and flogged it pretty hard in the hills above San Diego.

Steering off center, pulls to the left, and needing two hands on steering wheel is all signs of the car needing a simple alignment probably caused by an incident the poster above mentioned.

Cracked rim, steering off center, I bet its been wrecked. Mine is a 2011 with about 57k miles and runs faster than new and drives tight, quiet and smooth as new.

Rough idle might be from 26k miles with regular gas. No one puts premium in a rental.

Not the cars fault, some renter probably smacked a curb.

Pretty common on non 1LE SS's, especially if the fluid wasn't changed at 1500 miles. Which I'm sure this one wasn't.

Nope, all the V8 Camaros have a "rough" idle. Mine, my friends, and the two I test drove all did it. It's partly from the A/F ratio changing to keep the cats at a certain temperature range, and some even think it was done on purpose to "add a muscle car feel". My Coyote Mustang did the same thing.

so someone rents a 1SS
they do a burn out
they loose control and hit a curb (like a mustang)
they mess up the wheel and alignment (and who knows what else)
they return the rental car
you rent the same car
you ask if the car is pos?

Yeah not sure if my post was clear, I was basically stating this car had the crap beat out of it and it's still rock solid. I'm sure all the damage is easily repairable.

Also carbon buildup definitely effects the idle. I have 33k miles on my 6.2 sierra, and there is definitely buildup and a rougher idle from stock. Most 6.2's idle smooth

A lot less is actually shared with the iron truck 6.2's then you may think...Go sit in a Camaro SS at at dealer and start it up and you will see what I mean. It's not like a big ass cams idle, but the LT1's definitely have a little "chop" to their idle. It's a combination of the larger cam and the tuning for the cat temps changing a/f ratios.

Sounds like user error that should have been corrected
-steering off center
-pulls to the left
-need two hands on the wheel to drive straight at 60mph
All these three are the same issue...and I'll be the same impact that broke the wheel....messed up the alignment. Probably needs to be adjusted. And be good!
-grinding noise during turns especially bad when cold, sounds like differential
Known "quirk".
-rough idle, probably from carbon buildup
Perhaps.

I offered some things in blue above. Very interesting perspective.

Seems like the car is holding up well to used-car abuse.
